I was looking at the cheif examiners reports to see what subjects actually recieve the highest results. Vote on the poll for the four subjects you think are easiest to achieve an "A" in. (Excluding Core Subjects) I hope this will help those who are picking subjects for the LC

Phys/Chem should be there, about 13 or 14% of it's students get As.

And students shouldn't look to this for choosing their subjects, they should just pick their favourites unless that's going to cost them a place in their first choice (highly unlikely).

Percentage of A's should have nothing to do with subject choice. How much you enjoy it and how well you understand the course material should be all that matters.

Percentage of As is kind of irrelevant. Physics has a very high A rate but think about it. Of the 12ish people in my physics class, 8 are only doing it cos they need 3 sciences for medicine. Compared to biology with a lower A rate, and a subject which many choose 'just to have a science'.

So since physics tends to attract a higher calibre of student(not trying to sound like a douche here), the A rate will obviously be higher. That doesn't necessarily mean that its easier to get an A in physics. If anything it could be tougher due to harsher competition resulting in more difficult papers.

Getting the highest number of As doesn't mean it's the easiest subject.

Anyone who picks their subjects on an 'easiest' basis is in trouble before they start.

You don't need to look at CE reports to see what the figures are. There is a much 'easier' way.

There is a whole document produced every year that compares the three most recent sittings. Look under statistics on the SEC site.

That's because I'd imagine most sitting Russian are native speakers.

    Yup :D
I only came across two people ever who werent native speakers doing the exam.
Only goes to show that since a lot of people get A1 in a subject that its easy. It means that a large number of people know it very well for various reasons.

Russian is easy for a native speaker because it, like Japanese, only presumes a 2 year course. The other curricular languages presume you have studied them for at least 5 years. Non-curricular languages such as Polish and Romanian are aimed at native speakers.

You should never base your subject choice on A rates/ honours rates/ pass or fail rates because they can't tell you if you'll like the subject or if you'll do well in it.
I had a look at the A1 rates from 2011 anyway and it was interesting to see that the following subjects (excluding minority subjects like Russian and Latin) were easiest to do well in:
    Applied Maths (15.2%), Chemistry (11.6%), Physics (9.1%), Accounting (9.7%), German (8.4%), Spanish (8%), Biology & Ag. Science (both 6.7%)

The following are the most difficult to do well in:
    Economics (3.8%), Religion (3.7%), Business & Geography (both 3%)

A % rates are complete crap. They don't represent the chance of getting an A given you take the subject. The represent the chance of getting an A in the group of people who choose the subject. Generally people who choose a subject do so for a reason. If this weren't the case we could all just pick the subjects with the highest A rates and do them.
