Search boards.ie for: simplyelectronics and make up your own mind.

Depends on who you ask and how things worked out..

    Thanks.

A quick search shows that the goods come from Hong Kong, so VAT and duty apply.

I'm registered for VAT, so that's not a problem. But, the duty added makes the final cost harder to determine.

VAT inclusive, it would be a no-brainer.

    Think I'll skip it.

Big Norman has it for £274.

I have purchased from them and had no problems.

if you're using simplyelectronics make sure that you use paypal so that you can get your money back easily if there's a problem. harder to do so if you're using a credit card.

This was my experience with them.

Buying a grey import means that you won't get warranty support from
Canon Europe. This can get very messy if you need to make a warranty
    claim.

That's surprising. I've never found paypal to be of any use in a dispute. Credit card have rectified a couple of situations hassle free.

Ive bought from Simplyelectronics 3 times.
Never been hit for VAT or Duty as the goods actually come from the UK.

i bought Canon 550d, Canon 50mm F1.8 lens and Nikon D5100. Over 1k worth of stuff without a problem.

    I also used paypal btw.
They even honoured my cashback through Fatcheese :D

    A rating 0.69 out of 10!!!

Thanks for all the feedback. Think I'll hold out for the moment.

The Conn's price ex VAT is €405. I could probably haggle and get it for €375(ish) and I'd have all the after sales I need for that €60 difference.

Anyway, the fault issue, which I'd already read about, bothers me. So, I'll sit on the fence for a while.

    Thanks again.

I was thinking of getting the S100 as well; procamerashop.co.uk have it for and get good reviews:

    Anyone with experience of them?

I haven't used the S100, but I have an S90 and it's far and away the best compact camera I've had. Would definitely recommend it.

dont ever use conns as a base for pricing, they are easily the most expensive camera shop in the country.

Hey blastman. I'm looking for a new compact. I did some checking, and the s95 can be got on amazon for 200 sterling. I believe its pretty close to the s90.

How do you find the image quality? Especially indoors?

I'm not too sure how much of an improvement the s100 is over the s95. The GPS is a gimmick for me, and the 10MP in the s95 are enough. Unless the s100 has some other major benefits, I'll probably go for the s95.

    Anyone any thoughts?

Just want to mention I bought the S100 for €315 from Ebay a few weeks ago.

I used it at a wedding recently, quickly uploaded pics at the wedding venue to show friends and family onto iPad and they were blown away, everyone thought the quality was from a high end DSLR. So Im very happy with the S100

Don't buy from simplyelectronics unless you go through a third party like moneybookers! Ordered a nokia lumia 710 before Easter, cancelled the order 4 weeks later as I hadn't heard from them. Only got a refund 2 days ago. Had a few friends order off of them around the same time as myself and they've had the exact same issue. Impossible to deal with. If you do buy from them make sure to use someone like moneybookers. Foolishly I didn't. I was lucky to get my money back.

Ordered a Samsung SIII from Simplyelectronics.net about a week ago - arrived today, surprisingly, but not complaining!

Haven't got to check out whether there's any problems with it but should be alright. Most of the issues seem to be with just getting products delivered.

The camera has a very wide aperture and a larger than normal sensor (for a compact) which means it takes great pictures indoors. It also works in higher ISO modes without much noise, another plus for indoor shots. I use it a lot at gigs and get some very good results, not quite SLR-like quality under difficult conditions like that, but very acceptable.

So yeah, I like it. :)
