Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

10,000 Ties to remember 6 months as president

A read in a newspaper a few weeks ago that there is a child with special needs to fly regularly to the UK about once every three months for specialised care and treatment. He needs to fly by air ambulance. The number of his flying journeys has been cut. As in he is not allowed to fly as often as he needs. He can be seen here but the specialists in his illness are in the UK.

I can't remember how much an air ambulance is. I think the sum 10,000 is coming to mind but I must be wrong about that.

So a kid is denied treatment because there isn't enough money but there's plenty of money for 10,000 ties.

I want to FG out. There's a country in europe without a government, isn't there? Can we oust these fcukers in the Dail? We might even save money.

250 household charges.......... or about 30+ MRI scans for seriously ill children.

Are you joking or for real?

    250 x 100 is 25000
    2.50 a tie

Pennys would have them for a euro.

And what the hell are these ties going to be used for? I've an image in my head that they're all going to be tied together for a rope and used for some sort of decoration purposes.

    That's at a low estimation.....
No indication is given of what the Department of Foreign Affairs is willing to pay, but tenders posted on the etenders website, in general, are valued at at least €25,000.

I have an image of Edna and David Carradine sitting on a cloud discussing the ties...

I think we should import a new political party. Pick a decent one, pay the duty on them and let them get down to it.

I have the odd idea that they might sew a load of ties together to make multicoloured pimp suits.

Better idea sell off the country and have the people run it as a business. So that way if we ever get ****ed the owners government will have to bail us out and we don't have to deal with the debt

I am suRe I will be in the minority but I really can't see the need for the big outcry.

We have the presidency for 6 months. It's doesn't come around often. Last in 2004 I think and generally we normally wouldn't have it again for soon but I think the Czechs pulled out of hosting it.

The eyes of Europe is on the country for that time. Huge footfall of people travelling to Ireland for conferences, meetings events summits Etc.

A few souvenirs used to promote Ireland is no big deal even if they are tacky or whatever. Jebus I remember seeing people walking the streets with presidency 2004 bags umbrellas notepads etcc after the last presidency.

It seems this government has kept things fairly minimal so far. Probably won't even cost 300k

    thats sarcasm right? right?

WTF?!!! Is this a wind up? It's worked I'm wound up, now please tell me this is a joke so I can go eat my corn flakes in peace.

Who are they giving 10000 ties to? Why? holy crap you just couldn't write this stuff anymore. In an age of austerity they go and order 10 bloody thousand ties?! The best silk ties no doubt. How could anyone that has any amount of decency defend this? Leaders of other countries must have a great laugh when they meet these gob****es.

Great my corn flakes are soggy now :(

RTE are a disgrace, I've been saying it along time now. There silence on certain matters along with mainstream newspapers is disgusting. The Ulster Bank fiasco as an example has had poor coverage.

Questions need to be asked, Mick Wallaces taxes have had 10 times the coverage the Ulster Bank fiasco has. I know what people care about the most, but the government certainly would rather it wasnt given coverage.

Cant blame RTE really, they always licked FFs arse as well. Men like Eoghan Harrish run this countrys media. Thank fuck for Boards.ie anyway! :D

OP is a link to an RTE story. So you're ranting about RTE not covering stuff when we've all found out about this.... from RTE.

    Um, OK....

I'd be all for it if they had a different design on the neckties. Perhaps something like this that symbolises what the Fine Labour junta is helping international capitalism to do to Ireland and we seem to be accepting:

I hope all you people who bent over backwards to pay the household tax happy and proud of yourselves knowing that you are supporting wastage like this. Dragging the rest of us down into your sheer ignorance into supporting this wastage. If we all stuck together and didn't pay, the government would have to cut wastage. Now, because many paid the household tax, those who haven't paid will be strung by their necks to pay up.

You are talkin utter tosh my friend...to think that peons like you had a vote on the fiscal treaty !

    Supporting wastage ?

Rubbish my stupid friend ..the houshold tax was paid because we realise that the country is in a dire financial state..

How it got there is irrelevant.

You strike me as someone who could spend 100 euros no problem on a night out...but yet don't want to pay a legal charge on your dwelling.

Probably have no car tax/tv license/house insurance neither....

Why should an Irish company get it?

Why not? If they're spending this money, they might aswell try and support native buisnesses/ Surely there is Irish companies just as competitive as Chinese ones for tie making?. carbon emissions and all that jazz

But then again I remember the Authorney general having to go to France to get curtains (€80,000), so maybe they'll go with that tailor, who knows?

'Course they are ...all the cool guys like Mick Wallace ...Bogman Flanagan and all the alternatives don't wear them ...really cool and the gang......

They'll be the ones sitting at the back with them on Rambo style:cool:

If there's an Irish company that can do better than the other bidders they'll win the contract, so need for protectionist policies.
