What's the sca with Osvaldo's suspension?

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

Lovren out for 4 weeks with ligaments.
Apparently Ramirez ligament damage as well.
Osvalso suspension up but has some tunnel
spat which cortese didnt like and wanted him
    shipped out.
Lambert not a happy bunny either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

    Uh Oh
Osvaldo suspended by club for 2 weeks for thumping Jose Fonte.
    Is it still pantomine season...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

Osvaldo looking to force a move back to Italy, if he goes quickly and brings Ramierez with his good bye and good luck. Hasn't really shown too much bar a wonder goal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

Lovren & Ramirez now to be 8 weeks out.
    Osvaldo apparently headbutted Fonte.SELL?SELL?

Think he'll go, other players are furious. Hopefully we can get the money we paid for him, otherwise best to cut the loses and get rid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

More than likely go on loan.
Point last night should have been 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭Green Giant

Osvaldo is certainly disposable, despite the hefty fee paid for him. He has no shortage of ability, as witnessed with the goal against Man City, but it's not as if he's way ahead of other players in the squad, and if he's going to be a disruptive influence then Saints are better off without him

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

Seems he is off to Juve who are going to let Vucinic out on loan,,..
    to the arsenal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

How bad are Fulham?Demolished by great football but if you watched
City/Chelsea last night it isnt difficult to figure out why.
Things semm better by all accounts since Cortese left but who would
    replace Poch when he goes.

I don't think its that inevitable he'll go in the summer, he knows he has the full support of the board and I think if we place just outside the europa he'll be given a bit of a bigger kitty to push for an extra few places.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

Seems there is good new on lovren and he will be back shortly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

Anyone going over for any games?

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

If I could get over the dread of Dublin airport...
Good win vs Hull.Need to push on and put the mackems
out of the Cup and make a real effort to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

I've not been to many games since the kids were born. The oldest is now 7 and they are both desperate to go to St Mary's to a game, so need to sort that out :) The real bugger is flights to Southampton are expensive, esp for 3 of us. Might take them to the Villa away game as I have a sister living near there.

Good win yesterday, missed some good chances too and thought it was ripe for going horribly wrong, but great to see them keep at it, keep the clean sheet and get the win.

Gotta say I just love the way Southampton fc is run these days. We all know about the great youth academy that has been there but it seems to have got even better.

The likes of Shaw and Clyne have shown they are capable of being great Premier League players and Lallana is just ridiculously good now but even more than that Callum Chambers looks to have displaced Clyne and seems like a fantastic prospect and then there is Ward-Prowse, Reed, Gallagher and this Isgrove lad I've been hearing a lot about.

Its not only that but the way they approached the transfer market last summer making just three signings but all big ones.Ok so Osvaldo hasn't worked out as expected but Lovren and Wanyama have been great signings.

It just appears that the club is being run so right these days and I'm expecting them to keep improving and challenging for European places every season for quite a while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

Not every signing will work out, even fergie made some big howlers so not too worried about Osvaldo, think the signings have been pretty bang on barr him.

Flights to southy are a mare alright. I'm the same with the sprogs oldest is 6 now and keen to go, and sad to say I've never been to SMS every time I was back I could never get a ticket or it was off season :-(

Aer Lingus are flying into Bmouth but they're not much better than flybe price wise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

In the days when Ryanair flew to bournemouth you had a bit more price competition but Aer Lingus are rarely much better than Flybe when I look and since my parents are in Winchester the price of b'mouth is rarely worth it. I was really annoyed, we were over there for Christmas but they played away twice while we were there and not at home! Couldn't be bothered to drive to Cardiff having driven passed it to/from Rosslaire!

What actually has happened to Osvaldo? Did we actually sell him? Or is he just lurking around not playing? I know about the training ground bust up but not heard he's actually gone...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

He's loaned out to Juve with the option to buy for 15m in June afaik.

That was a stinker for you so! Contemplating driving back next time. Was hoping to get back for the stoke game last week but too last minute so was crazy money to get back. Is it a bad drive?

I've family in Hythe so bournemouth is handy enough, halfway between there and eastleigh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

Just booked flights back for the utd game on the 11th may, not to bad only €80 so happy out. Just now have to find a ticket!

That was shocking. Why we didn't play our best team for this I really don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

I don't understand why teams like Southampton don't take the cups more seriously and play full teams or the team they'd pick if this was a league game.

They're not going to get relegated and a day out at Wembley is something to remember and cherish, especially if it ends in a cup win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Yeah its a strange mentality - nothing to play for other than a cup (and getting above Newcastle and Man Utd).

  • Registered Users Posts: 464 ✭✭rosskind

That team must be knackered. Rodriguez, for example, has missed 9 minutes of action across 16 games going back to the start of November. Of all strikers in the league, only Giroud has played more minutes than J-Rod and Lambert.

Shaw has missed 270 minutes (3 games) since week 5. Fonte has missed 2 games (came off in another) all season. Lovren the same til his recent injury. Lallana has started every game, completing 2098/2340 minutes. Schneiderlein not far off that.

You have two excellent right backs and a handful of quality centre mids but aside from that barely any cover. An absolute joy to watch and a match for anyone at full-strength but once the likes of Hoovield, Fox, Guly or either back up keeper are required and you've got a big drop-off in quality.

Serious effort by such a small squad, especially after the Christmas period, such a dull performance is understandable and not something to beat the players with.

Hopefully you can hang on to your players and with a few quality addition (no doubt there's a few talents in the production line), the sky's the limit for this team.

Not a Southampton fan but could not understand that today. No chance they will be in a relegation fight really. No European football. Why not try and win a trophy? Utterly baffling to me to be honest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 387 ✭✭zztop

Season fading to a boring end.
But then again Liverpool are always good to beat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭BigMoose

I guess if being in little danger of relegation = boring, I'll take that! :) Although I hope they dont give up and carry on trying hard to beat the likes of Liverpool.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

I really hope the lads don't stop trying. I think we can still come close to Europa league this season, which will make us look better to the board for next season ie give hopefully MP a few more bob for the summer.

Would love it to be a playoff against Utd for 6th

(bar the fact i'm bringin a couple of mancs back to hythe for that weekend and couldn't handle the sulking :pac: )

  • Registered Users Posts: 464 ✭✭rosskind

I think there's a difference between being burnt out and not trying.

To qualify for Europe, you'd need City to win the League Cup, Arsenal to beat Everton and avoid City in the FA Cup semis and (hardest of all) catch up six points on either United or Everton, who have a game in hand. Always has an effect on the next season's league position but surely worth it in the long run?

Poch doesnt consider the europa league of great value.
Is the will to get there?

If Luke Shaw is worth 25m how much now for Lallana.
Reckon adam should be #1 choice for England with Shaw
also going. Not sure about JRod but he would still be a better
ber than Rickie who seems to have lost it?

    £20m for him I'd say

I agree, rickie seems to be off the gas goal wise lately, still think he's a better bet than carroll to throw on in the last 10 mins of the final at 1-1 :p

Can we stop talking about selling the talent please!

    Amen to that.

I would hope Lallana has done enough to get the call up this summer. Not convinced he'll take any others, but would be good to see Shaw there. Rickie needs to start performing if he wants to go but dont see Jrod getting the call sadly.

United fan here. I think Lallana well deserves his place in the England squad as does Shaw. I reckon Lallana will get the nod but knowing England I fear Shaw may be dropped in favour of Cole, even though he is long past his best. IMO Baines and Shaw should be brought.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think Shaw should be the first left Bach picked.

Lallana is a cert to be in the squad, should be starting imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Shaw and Lallana are bankers to male the squad IMO.

Cole hasnt played enough to justify an inclusion even if he looked like he hadmt missed any games.

Shaw is more impressive carrying the ball forward and crossing but Coles defensive ability, given his experience is vastly superior to Shaw.

Give Shaw time and he'll be Englands 1st choice LB for a decade.

Such a stupid headline I didn't even bother to read the article.

Schneiderlin thinking of switching to England if france keep on ignoring him.

Thats another one in the fold.

    Ramirez to Milan
    Osvaldo to Italy permanently
    Lambert to West ham 3m
    JRod to liverpoll €20

Is that an alternate dimension where Lowe is still chairman?

Thought the Osvaldo deal was already sorted and Ramirez seems to be finding his feet but still think he has a lot to do.

    LOL

Saints have allegedly contacted the Premier League to warn them that they may not be able to put out a side for the beginning of the 2014/15 season.

Sources close to St Mary's have revealed that the Club may have already spoken to the Premier League and issued a warning that they may not be able to field a side for the start of the 2014/15 season.

At the moment they are able to fulfill their obligations to the League for this season, but there are severe doubts whether they will still be able to do the same for next season, after secret documents published in the media were disclosed

    Skip advertisement
Those media sources have already reported that many members of the Saints squad have allegedly already agreed deals with top Premier Clubs in some cases with two even three clubs and this will impact on Saints ability to get out 11 players.

So far its been confirmed that Luke Shaw will be signing for both Manchester City and Chelsea and may also find time to turn out for Manchester United.

Adam Lallana has agreed a deal with Manchester United as well as Liverpool and Spurs, Callum Chambers will be leaving St Mary's to play for Spurs and Arsenal, Jay Rodriguez has already signed for Arsenal and expects to sign a similar deal for Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Morgan Schneiderlin will follow on his signing for Arsenal every summer for the past four years by again succumbing to Arsene Wenger's offer this year, whilst Victor Wanyama has not only signed for Manchester City but Liverpool and Newcastle as well.

Sam Gallagher is so far resisting most offers but it was confirmed in this morning's press he has agreed to sign for Chelsea to join Dejan Lovren on the days he isnt playing for Spurs

On a brighter note though Rickie Lambert is likely to return to just playing for Saints after leaving for Upton Park in the January window.

All in all though it will mean that Saints will struggle to field a side for next season if the press sign any more of our squad for the big 5 before August.

However its not all doom and gloom, on one hand the club will have plenty of money to invest in the 2014/15 increased ISA allowance and will also be able to upgrade the public address system that will be vital if we are to make up the numbers from appeals to the crowd next term.

Saints new Chairman Ralph Krueger if he had been asked would probably not have commented.

" It has been a tough first week for me in my new job, I arrived to find most of our squad have already signed for other clubs for next season, I appeal for our supporters not to panic and stay calm, in the meantime if any of them have any wheelbarrows we could use to take the cash up the bank then we as a club will be grateful"

Harking back to his recent comments on returning to the traditions of the club he said

" I believe back in the second world war that it was not uncommon for the club to have to appeal to the crowd for players to make up the numbers, it pleases me to announce that we will return to that tradition with effect from next season and urge all supporters to get to the ground early and bring their boots"

"I wish all the players leaving for Arsenal/Spurs/Liverpool/Man City/Man Utd (*delete as appropriate) the best and if anyone has got change of a £40 million pound note it would be helpful"

On a brighter note the club is to appear on the Antiques Roadshow on Sunday where Fiona Bruce will give a valuation on a set of spoons recently found at St Mary's which are believed to date back to 2009.
