Any opinions on this sequence of events?

Ordered a PC last Tuesday the 29th of June - No reply.
Reordered Wednesday - Got a reply on Thursday morning.
Emailed them for a VAT discount on Thursday morning.
Got an exVAT quote on Friday morning and IBANed the money immediately.

Got an email Friday evening quoting a different exVat amount (an additional 2.77 euros) . Replied referencing the first quote and said I had transferred that amount. No reply.

Got an email Wednesday morning stating that they had received the funds.
Got an email Wednesday afternoon stating that there was a shortfall of 4.76 euros in the amount transferred.

I replied Wednesday that the shortfall was not equal to the difference between the first 2 quotes and that I wished to be contacted to resolve the
issue by lunchtime today as it seems impossible to determine the correct amount to be paid or I would cancel the order.

Just cancelled the order as no email/correspondence received. I tried ringing them but could not get through.

All in all a waste of 10 days (HWVS work 7 days a week) and they still have my money. I could have the machine now if I had gone somewhere else. Gutted.

Has anybody tried PC Specialist in the UK?

Why re-order on Wednesday? Was there something different between the two orders?

I ordered with a VAT number and it took them two days to provide me a ex vat update

Yeah I ordered last night, emailed them about VAT as well. Waiting on a response now.

I reordered because I assumed the original order had not gone through. I expected a prompt automated email like you would receive when booking anything over the net such as a hotel or flight.I did not cancel the first order and never received anything related to it.

My issue isn't with the time it took to get the VAT quote, it's with the three different amounts and the fact that they did not reply when I pointed out the discrepancy. The discrepancy between amounts 1 and 2 was pointed out on Friday. A third amount was auto emailed by the system to me 5 days later.

Ten days is a long time to wait to establish the actual purchase amount for an item, the exact figure for which still has not been sent to me.

    K.

What was the (approximate, seeing as you have three quotes) rate of VAT that was taken off?

It seems to be effectively 16.5 or 17%

    I went from ~€930 to ~€780

That's a new one, I was wondering whether it would be the German 19, the Irish 23, or the "reduced rate" of 13.5. Not sure where they get 17 from :pac:

I dunno! They are pocketing it maybe :)

    You're doing the maths wrong, it's 19% ... ~780 * 1.19 = ~930.

    Nope...930 - 19% = 753.

    I think it's 19% on the goods.
The service VAT rate is most likely different i.e. for any assembly and shipping.

    Nope...930 - 19% = 753.
    Double nope ... 930 / 1.19 = 780.

Working out the ex. VAT price of something with a VAT rate of X% included is NOT the same as taking X% off the VAT inclusive price!

    My mistake then :o:p

No, but I'm hoping to get some parts off overclockers.

Pity you had problems with hwv. They seemed good when I got my gpu from them.
I made a custom laptop with pc specialist last year and I have to say they were superb. You'll pay a little bit more for a custom desktop than a self build but still be a good bit cheaper than high street prices. Plus you get to custom choose almost very component (just not a massive range of brands if you're picky)
They seem very capable in the builds and there customer support is excellent as is the community on their forum.

You get really good warranty on build as well as components for next to nothing.
If you want to pay a little more than a self build but less than anywhere else as well as the peace of mind that comes with a professional build I'd highly recommend pc specialist.

I didnt save a huge amount on my desktop build when I built it recently (I did a comparison on the pc specialist website) but I did have a few brand preferences (went with evga gtx 670 ftw and samsung 830 128gb ssd)
Again I'd recommend them if you want a custom build by professionals.
