I recently moved office and I now work from home. Cut costs and all that.

I tried to connect to the net by plugging the yellow cable from the eircom broadband box to the back of the computer.

However I still cannot connect to internet. Does anyone know a solution to this problem. Wi fi and everything works fine with laptop etc.

    regards

    Leon.

Sounds familiar, there isn't another LAN socket on the back of your computer other than the one youre using now is there?

Will the laptop work via the Ethernet? (make sure wifi is off)

No just the one lan port. The PC is around 7 years old!

Is there a light turned on for the port number on the router that corresponds to where the LAN is plugged in

Did you check to see if the Ethernet card is properly installed? (device manager) also check in network places and see what it is saying about the connection.

    Go to

    Start
    Control panel
    Network connections

See what's happening with the LAN

Maybe disabling, then enabling the connection would fix your problem.

Sorry, not very tech, just this works for me.

    Edit, what he said ^^

Make sure your ip settings are set to automatic, it could be that your office used a static IP address system that is still assigned to your network port.

Go to the command line interface and type ipconfig when the yellow cable is plugged in and you should have an IP address of 192.168.1.x
