The Adata 850W PSU at komplett is much the same for ~€85 iirc.
Not that you need an 850W PSU. Is SLI on the cards or something?

down the line probably once I notice any dip in performance, water cooling, an extra 670 and will be trying over clocking as well

is Adata an OK make then? modular too

The Adata has the same internals as the Corsair TX. Both are made by CWT.

You could fit overclocking that CPU into 450W and with two 670s into about 650W. Not sure on the power consumption of water cooling as I haven't checked it lately. It's an expensive route to go down. Buy with a bit of room but don't completely go over your needs.

For a graphics card is the base clock and boost clock effectively how good the card is, i.e. the higher the better.

the Asus GTX 670 1058MHz 2GB DirectCU II Top won't be in stock for a while but it has an Engine Clock GPU Boost Clock : 1137 MHz and a GPU Base Clock : 1058 MHz @ €446.58

Then was looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 670 1019MHz 2GB which has a Core Clock of 1019 MHz and a Boost Clock of 1079 MHz @ €406.93

    and the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 980MHz 2GB which has a Core Clock (MHz) Base: 980MHz and a Boost: 1058MHz @ €417.73

Is the MSI a good card?

In most situations you can overclock them yourself to match the same speed as others. I'd go for whichever one is cheapest and so long as it's got adequate cooling and the brand doesn't have a particularly bad name associated.

I do intend on overclocking down the line alright. So is the effective memory clock then that they all seem to have of 6.008 GHz the real figure that should be looked at making the other figures irrelevant?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

No, you can overclock the memory too.
Effective memory frequency = 4 x memory clock

All the figures are pretty much irrelevant (aside from a 4GB edition). The only thing that makes an overclocked version better is better cooling/better firmware/better voltage tweaks/better chip chosen which can be overclocked further.

It's not always irrelevant though. Take a look at the GTX 460. There were two versions of that. Three if you count the 460SE as well.

think I'll go with the MSI GeForce GTX 670 1019MHz 2GB and hope it's in stock when I go to buy

No sign of it for the last few weeks, has a few reviews though. I went for the Asus in the end (not TOP version, can overclock it myself)

yeah seen that alright, feels weird picking a couple of components all by myself somewhat having just copied your and others builds, I've learnt a lot from here though with thanks and through my own research.

did you find out what the ex vat amount was on your build from HWVS after?

Nope, their email system is awful so I'll have to ring them on Monday. Got Scan sorted though, so that's a start. SSD, PSU, Keyboard, DVD Drive, all the essentials basically. Who needs a motherboard? :pac:

Looks pretty much like my build :pac:

Any need for the TOP version of the 670? Could always OC it yourself.

Well I did copy most of it and I'm still waiting for pictures to be posted so I'll know what mine will look like. :pac:

The top one is due in stock shortly so I said I'd pay the extra fifteen odd quid for it. Can the top one not be over clocked as well or is that just for people who want the extra performance but don't want/know how to overclock? Will you be overclocking the normal one to the same sort of levels as the top one?

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭BhoyRayzor

would I need extra sata cables, think you get two with the mobo which will be used for the hdd and the ssd. would I need any extra for any of the other components?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

    DVD drive?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

If the DVD drive has Retail somewhere in the title there's a SATA cable with it, otherwise you'll need another.

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭BhoyRayzor

boom, ordered, changed the dvd to a samsung retail one. hopefully putting it together won't be as stressful as buying it :D

thanks to all for input, help and suggestions, I'm sure I will need you again in the coming weeks
