Just read with sadness the ammount of rubbish posted in a closed thread about Pound World / Eurprice.

    It needs a little balance.

Pound World was set up by Paul Hamill in the nineties.

It has provided employment for THOUSANDS of peple over 25+ years throughout the southeast.

Paul Hamill, the driving force behind the business died in a tragic motor bike accident in October 2008.

The chain obviously has been affected by both the current number of new entrants to the discount market who ave been able to get very cheap rents whilst Eurprice has had to contened with their historic high rents under their long term leases.

With regard to redundancy and companies that go into liquidation, too many people ahve zero knowledge of the procedure and belive the first person who tells them a pack of lies.

Wages and holiday entitlements owed to staff take higher priority than even the taxman in a liquidation. Redundancy is paid via the social fund to which every employee and employer pays into via prsi and whilst it may take alittle longer than a normal redundancy where a company is just shedding staff, it is guaranteed by the state.

If I remember, there was a similar witch-hunt on the wexford thread when Byrnes closed down. Do people have such short term memories that they cannot remember all the benefits and employments these local people brought to the local towns & cities over the years?

The mods discussed the topic on Eurprice and decided to close it due to the difficulties in moderating a topic about Eurprice. This didn't even refer to extra moderation done even after the original topic was closed (not just by us, but by the admins also). I think a lot of people agreed with our decision. As such, this thread will have to go the same way and be locked.

    Sorry.
