    Hi

Am a newbi and not sure im in right place, but anyway here goes!! My daughter has a job in a "department Store" Its an 8 hours a week contract!!!!

She sometimes gets more hours and goes into work whenever they call her, she really does her best to get as many hours as possible!! However there are many weeks when she only gets 8 or 12 hours, not enough to live on....So being a hard worker she got herself a little weekend job in a local place does 5 hours on a Sat and Sun!!!

Now the boss in the "Department Store" is telling her she must be available to work any day of the week they want her!!! Wont just roster her on mon to fri even though they have plenty of staff to cover!!

So any time she has been rostered on for a Sat and Sun she has just swapped with another member of staff and no problem.... Until this week, she has now been told she cant swap with any other member of staff and must be present in the store!!

Anybody got any ideas about her rights? Seems really unfair when she is just trying to make a living, stay off dole etc!!!

Oh yea her contract says she has 8 hours a week Sunday to Sunday!!!

    Any help would be great!:D

These contracts are very common in retail. Everyone starts on a small-hours contract, and the ones who are any good get offered larger contracts later on.

Maybe it's not just about cover: really it's only fair that the weekend work is shared among all the staff, or there are some particular things that she needs to do on Saturday.

Legally, she signed up for the job after telling them she was available 7 days. She's now wanting to change her mind - if she cannot negotiate the change, she'll need to quit.

She has the choice of swapping a shift at the other job, quitting one, or maybe calling in sick.

Dont think anybody got a new contract, they all say they are on same!!!

Lots of staff there and some of them only want weekend work, so dont think its a problem.... if they would give her decent hours she would be delighted!

She would also give them her roster from other job and be happy to fit in with them regarding any hours

They just appear to be mean minded!!!
