I'm still here, I just want baby to be here. I'm just chilling out during the day. Getting pains on and off today but nout other than that.

How did you get on in hosp today CB?

  • Registered Users Posts: 113 ✭✭Caramelbarrel

Ah, good to hear from you luv...
Was wondering!! Glad you are well.... and keep up the chilling, you deserve to chill.

Usual thing this morning -- all perfect -- as expected...
Dragging me out of bed again for nothing !

Back on Friday for another check, and then the following Monday...
Monday I'd be term plus 12 days, so I'm sure she'll be here by then :-)

Booked in for Accupuncture especially for Birth for Thursday so that might tip me over the edge and into labour naturally, with any luck. Know what you mean... really want my little 'un to arrive now!! Can't wait to meet her! Have a feeling it'll be soon. If I do go in very soon, I'll text you :-) Just think Elly our wee ones will be with us any day now!

I think I keep forgetting I still have 6 days to due date, Im getting really anxious the last few days. Not about labour or the birth just about the baby being ok. I'm not feeling many movements and I know it's because baby has no room and movements are different compare to a few weeks ago its worrying me I am getting the 10 movements but its just not what it used to be like and as the days go on I'm getting more and more anxious!

I'm trying to stay positive as I'm sure baby is fine but it is so nerve wreckon at this stage I just feel I have got this far with no probs I can't imagine what it would be like for anything to go wrong now. I really know I shouldn't be thinking or talking like that but I just can't help it at this stage!

Defo keep me informed by txt I'll be dying to know. I'm really interested in how it all starts as it seems that all the girls labours so far were different!

    Everything is ok...

Will do, will text, and likewise... you could go first, who knows!!!

Thanks ladies, on the ward, have already walked every carridor in the hospital. Very mild contractions nothing really noticeable. If I don't go myself they'll induce me late tonight or early in the am.

I didn't realise waters keep going until baby is here. Keep getting little gushes every so often. Thank god for the big pads otherwise I'd be drenched! I've gone tru loads since this morning.

OMG Elly! Best of luck! Isn't it mad hearing the 'pop'!?!

    So exciting!

Caramel I text you not sure if you got it? Lots of people seem to have not gotten their text from me....

So far so good. Little man is really good. Eats burps and sleeps. Mostly during the day- bit of a night owl on our hands methinks!
Oh my God the hormones though! Have cried and cried- for no earthly reason whatsoever. Just bit fat tears for nothing. Poor husband doesn't know what to do with me!
Feeding is-well- feeding! Feel like a dairy cow- leaking all over the place! Sore nipples like you wouldn't believe but all in all I expected it to be worse actually!!!

Lilbe how long before you started to fel better after section? Today is definitely a better day. We came home yesterday. Very very happy with mount carmel. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great care.

I woke and literally had a little pop and a gush! OH was working nights finished at 7am and I txt him at 7:05 god love him he was shattered. Sent him to my mams at 1 for him to have a snooze and she came down to me.

My contractions have started anyway. Seem to be about 8mins apart there strong but bearable with the breathing.

Must ask to be examined as haven't been examed since 10:30 this morning.

Hopefully I have babs by tomoro morn.

I had a sweep last Friday I was 1cm then, this morning I was 1.5 hopefully I'm a bit further now but sure we'll see.

I opted for the sweep, it works for some and not for others but no harm getting it they will prob induce you tho since you'll be 12 days over.

elly and annettea, huge congratulations! very exciting news! caramellbarrel, looking forward for your news now :-)

wicklori - at first I was very sore, but they told me in the hospital that I should try to walk around my room, and at first it hurts, but then gets much better. I was on painkillers for a while, though I didn't need them all the time - I managed with just one painkillers intake in a day, though they offered twice a day.
About 2 weeks after the birth I was off the painkillers, and now I feel good, move freely around the house, no problems getting in and out of bed or turning in bed, however to go for a walk is still a challenge. tried a little walk around 10 days after the surgery, and managed less than 10 minutes. Though after 2 weeks had about 15 minutes walk and felt much better. Now I go for walks, just try to walk slowly and not to go far away from the house so that I can come back when I'm tired. They said in the hospital it would take about 6 weeks to fully recover, and I'm only 3 weeks now. I hope your recovery goes well!

Thanks ladies, big congrats annettea on your little girl.

Sean is just amazing, it's like he was always in our lives. He is such a good little man. Not great at latching on but when he dies he's a gussler. My boobs are already really sore, and I'm very sore from section so with only a half hours sleep I decided to give him a bottle feed this morning, he gets so stressed trying to latch on I just didnt want to see him like that and I'm quite sore so reluctantly I gave him 15mls of aptimal he gussled it down and he's been asleep since. I'm going to put him back on breast for nxt feed if Im feeling up to it. The nurses and staff on all the wards I've bn on have been fantastic I couldn't fault the Coombe one bit. I'm even in my own room, I will most likely be put into a bigger ward room but I'm here until they need this one so I'm happy out.

Will be let out Monday All going well :-)

I will fill you all in on the birth when I'm. At home all settled and in front if laptop. :-)

CB anc aniascir babas will be here in no time and its amazing the instinct love and feeling you get.

Oh and my OH has been amazing its right what the other girls said, just when ya taught that you couldn't love that person any more it hits ya that the love ya feel for both OH and baby is just indescribable.

Elly, you sound just like the rest of us with the breastfeeding. I think you need to go whatever is best for YOU... a stressed and upset mum is no use to Sean. Lots of people used the aptimil when I was there. Have you tried to express yet? The symphony pump there is so easy to use and a nice alternative if you have sore nipples.

Are you in Joseph's ward there? Is there a midwife called Anne-Jane or Lisa on? Those two girls saved me from the depths of baby blueism. I can't explain how brilliant I found them.

I hope things are ok. I absolutely promise that it does get easier. The first 2 weeks though we're horrendous.,.. The tiredness nearly kills you. After that you begin to enjoy your time off with your little man so much more.

Ps... We very nearly called out little man Sean too... It's his second name now as we thought there was already too many Sean's in the family.

I gave up on the b'feeding, it was upsetting me seen how upset and distressed the baby was getting trying to latch on. 1 and a half days I lasted but I tried. My nipples are very chapped and bleeding as he wasnt latching properly. He's settled so much better on the bottles. I didn't express as they said there wouldn't be enough milk supply. So glad I borrowed pump now and didnt go out and buy one!

I'm on our lady's ward. Had a room on my own for nearly two full days and moved into a room with 4 beds yesterday evening. The women in with me are all lovely. We sit down at meal times and have a little chat it's actually nice. More sociable than bn in a room in ur own. The singleroom and ward both have their pros and cons.

The staff in the Coombe are absolutely amazing. I know I've already said it but they just treat each woman like they are the only woman to have a baby. They came in to settle baby a few times lastnight so that I could get asleep. I just feel they can't do enough for ya. I would never contemplate going semi or private after this experience.

Should be getting home tomorrow morning fingers crossed all is ok when I see docs. Sean had his first bath tonight and he loved it. Didnt cry once. So settled after it. Due a feed now so should be waking soon.

Hi everyone, , CB I hope you be joining soon your baby must not like the snow haha..can't wait to hear how u get on..
Breastfeeding is really hard in least Elly u gave him the 2 best days how u feeling? Visitors are very annoying. Yellowhen how u getting on with the breastfeeding?
I ran to the shops last night got formula but back on the boob this morning see how it goes..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,030 ✭✭✭yellow hen

Hi Annette, I saw your other post in the newborn thread. You're having a hard time with the breast feeding? It definitely was hard for the first fortnight... For me it settled down then and I find it easy enough. Only problem is that he's a hungry baby sometimes and feeds forever!!! We introduced formula at night but he now seems to have wind or reflux so in not sure whether to stop giving it to him now.

Don't berate yourself re breastfeeding. If it works out great but it's not for every mother and baby. Try once more and this time throw out the rule book. Feed your baby as they need it and ignore the 3 hour rule. Get some multimam compresses and use hot/cold flannels until your boobs become used to feeding. If it still doesn't work out, well you've tried your best. All a baby needs is your love...they won't grow up a mess just because they were formula fed!! :)

YH, my baby is exactly the same! Especially at night he can be at the boob forever, 7 hours was just the other night. I try to alternate boobs, but it's still a long feed!

Annettea, don't worry about breastfeeding. give it a try, and if it doesn't work, formula is always there. I felt desperate about breastfeeding after sleepless nights, what helped is calling the support group and getting reassurance and talking to the nurse. Does the hospital where you gave birth have breasfeeding support meeting? Or are there any breastfeeding counsellors in your area? You can also ask the public nurse for help, to observe how the baby latches and tell you what you are doing wrong.

    CB, any news?

OMG girls!!! This 10day growth spurt has been so so hard!!!! All he did yesterday was feed and feed, the night before completely unsettled- disaster! PHN and others had warned me but still found it so hard. Thought the 'second night' was hard!?!?!? Anyone else? Think it's been worse cos he's normally so good and breast feeding has been going ok. Was in tears last night going to bed- in fear of what the night would bring- but lo and behold.... Slept from 10-3 usual change and feed and then slept til 6!!! So delighted to have slept :-)

    Caramel? You've gone quiet!
