Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Come to think of it, I have never seen a post midget! I mean, it would be creepy as hell, the letter boxes would be mainly eye level for those guys.

Peepin' in yo' letter box, touching your post n stuff!

Thought this was going to be some sort of sex change rant.

I'll take two if they're going OP. Once they don't mind a fast delivery or taking a load through the back door....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭tempura

    So they do exist !
Have never seen one in Dublin !

It must be a bit of a difficult job tbh, like, where do post women go the the loo if they are caught out, obviously a post man can run up a lane or something, but you'd hardly find a post woman having a squat in a bush ! Would be funny though !

Loads of post women around my area (Raheen/Dooradoyle) One of my best and longest friends is a post mistress.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭monkeypants

We have at least one in Swords and she doesn't hop over walls or tramp through bedding plants like the men.

There was also a thread recently from a lady postie who got knocked off her bike by a careless driver.

My friend is a post woman!
The bags are SUPER heavy though, takes a strong person to do the job!

We've needed gender quotas for years in the postman industry. Someone start a campaign, think of the children etc.

I am one :D You'll find that we use the more politically correct bull****tery non denominational title of 'postal operatives' these days though  In our office of 120 delivery staff, we only have 10 women. Personally, I love it but it's tough enough and only suits certain people. Not only do you have the physical aspect of it, you also have to be well able for the banter :D

We have one here as well.

A few years ago while living in England, I happened to be talking to a relative who was a bit of a feminist.
    .
She had her daughter with her at the time and it was mid summer and hot. I just mentioned that the postman had been, she turns round and says it could have been a woman you know! She made sure that her daughter was in no doubt that women could deliver the mail as well.

I just looked at her and said "Well with those short fat hairy legs (he was wearing shorts) and a beard, I'm fairly certain that it was a man who delivered my letters today!" :pac:

= one pissed off feminist! :D

They must be as fit as Stephen Roche

Those black An Post bikes look ancient, I'd say they are incredibly heavy

If I had the job I'd use my own bike and a backpack, would be easier

Good luck fitting letters and packets for 1000 houses into a backpack :pac: The bikes are heavy but very sturdy and safe to cycle.

Here in the Great Satan's Asshole that is known as Seattle, WA, USA, there are plenty of postwomen. Many of them deliver the mail. Many of them remain at the facilities as customer service reps.

Bet you'd love a nice big parcel of him, eh .. eh .. nudge, nudge, hear what I'm saying, know what I mean, eh, eh.

    I overdid, didn't I.

No Post Women round my way sad to day, but have got a few "women" (of sorts) through the post - that counts, right.

I have one. I'm not meaning to sound sexist, but she does a **** job. I often get mail intended for my neighbors and occasionally I miss a payment because the bill didn't arrive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 123 ✭✭SlinkyKittin

I used to be a post woman, delivered around Dublin 1 and 2 mainly, and yes I had one of those huge high nelly bicycles, that had no gears/brakes. Was great fun at the time, didn't appreciate the freedom. Now office bound 9-5 :p

Having worked in the An Post Mail Centre in Athlone, I can safely say that at one stage or another, a female employee of An Post has handled all of your mail (if you live here or have received letters from here or sent letters to here, here being Ireland).

As for women who deliver door to door, there are a good few, most of them use vans, some use bikes.

I don't think any An Post workers walk anymore.

The bikes LOOK old but they are fairly new, they are pretty heavy though, popping wheelies out the loading bays while waiting for a truck load of post to arrive was a pass time.

If that position existed I guarantee you would never get your mail

Yep, Post woman driving a Transit Van.
