New goalposts

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if any of the fine folks on here have had any experience in buying new (full size) goalposts.

I've been nominated (!) by my club to source the best possible deal for a new set - prices i've received so far are anything from €1500 upwards.

The set we have at the minute are ok, but they are starting to show signs of age - they about 12/14 years old. Now there has been a suggestion of removing these and having the stripped back to the metal and powder coating them, but as our seniors play a summer season, and the schoolboy section play a regular August to April season, they are needed every weekend.

I am open to all suggestions, if it saves us a few bob to ship them in from abroad, I've no problem in dealing with anywhere.

So anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can see thats the standard rate you pay..Have to say never thought it was cost anywhere near that much for a set of goalposts

1500 quid for a set of goalposts. That's a hell of a lot of money. I never would have thought they'd cost as much.

Neither did I, tbh, but apparently that's about as cheap as they get. You can pay up to 4 or 5 thousand!!! :eek:

Hoping someone might have imported them cheaper.

Maybe talk to some builder/welders and see if it can be done privately.

I'm guessing its the sort of work they would have scoffed at during the Celtic Tiger, but might be more willing to do now.

Obviously you'd have to ensure the EN 748 safety standard (from the link above) is followed and emphasise that the measurements have to be 100% correct. You may be able to come to some arrangement which bypasses VAT (not something I usually approve of but make an exception for junior football).

Cheaper to buy than to make.
A fabricator will charge you 3 times the cost of the material for the job.
cheaper to buy off someone who mass produces.
