Publishing eBooks - software, word templates, what what?

To any of you who have published or put together an eBook - what software did you use, and/or can you recommend some word templates that can just be PDF'd? I've a ton of content I need to pull together and want to avoid the hassle of formatting it all on Word myself. Cheers!!
