    Ya he was the last official king... Ah well. Was at a quiz last day they asked what was the record that guy who jumped from the edge of space broke, can't think of his name. Wrote down highest freefall they wanted breaking the sound barrier, ended up finishing 4th by a point missing a prize :( it's not that's not what I have in front of me people it either is or it isn't.

    After that the title changed to "elected emperor of the Romans"... when the official coronation was deemed unnecessary.

    Is that correct ?

    Charles V was crowned in 1519 and abdicated in 1556 (not official until '58) with the Spanish Empire (including the Netherlands) going to his son Phillip while his younger brother Ferdinand became HRE.
    As by then many of the German states were officially Lutheran so crowning by the Pope was no longer considered the done thing.

    The last to use the title was Francis II until 1806 when Napoleon finally put an official end to the Holy Roman Empire.
