Starting a course in Galway in September, and looking for places around the city not too expensive, but decent. House, 2 bed apt. anything like this. I have a car so within 10 minute drive to the city centre would be ideal.

Any ideas on the areas which would suit? Don't have the foggiest when looking on Daft.ie where abouts I should be looking for

    Thanks :)

    Looking to spend about €400-500.

Doing the course in NUIG if that's of any difference, somewhere that's handy-ish traffic wise to get to the place and home again. Thanks :)

Man, you're in for a shock, it's 10-15 minutes walk from the Park-n-Stride to the main campus ... and that's 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre. Walking is oftentimes quicker than driving, because of the effort to find parking.

Basically, you need to look in Newcastle, Shantalla, Westside, Rahoon, Tirellan. All of those areas have good bit and dodgy bits - use your common sense when you go to look at them ('cos people get upset if we name the dodgy estates here - and even if we do, there are good pockets in them, and dodgy pockets in good ones, too)

The city-suburbs neighbourhood map gives you a sense of where the areas are - the university is in number 12 (the NUIG area).

Notice the river right beside it: this controls lots of transport and neighbourhood recommendations. The only place that I've suggested on the other side of the river is Tirellan, because that's within walking distance.

    Good luck.

Tbh - 4/500 isn't going to get a you a house or flat within 10 mins driving distance of NUIG.
You're better off looking at daft sharing section and move in with some other students.
The NUIG forum has an accommodation thread. Have a read of that and you might find something.

If you stay in Dangan you can get the park and ride from there or walk and it only takes ten minutes? It's really nice and no dodginess. I can't see anything for that amount near there though...

If you are sharing then 400-500 is plenty as most places would be in the 700-1000 range. On the Tirellan side you could also find places in Castlelawn, Crestwood and Sandyvale which are all grand estates.
