Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Given the current state of the world economy and current revelations such as the LIBOR scandel in which barclays manipulated interest rates for their own nefarious needs.
I imagine in realality they are the minions of satan involved in some diabolical plot to inslave humanity with credit.

Evil? As an atheist I can't really agree but something is wrong with them alright.
Greedy ***** are what they are anyway, with no regard for human suffering.

    Greed is not good.

Some of them are. Same as in any other occupation. To say they are all greedy is like saying all Irish are drunks, all Americans are stupid and so on... Narrow minded laziness in other words

I know quite a few people who work for different banks, and tbh they're just ordinary people the same as you or I. Maybe when you get to a level where you can influence bank and/or government policy you start to turn evil, but the other 99% of bankers are just trying to pay their bills like the rest of us.

The way banks are run and the systems that were in place led the banking system down a dangerous path. The greater the loan book the greater the bonus. Greed inducing greed. I hope this has changed but I seriously doubt it.

It takes a certain kind of person to get to the top of a banking organisation; generally a ruthless, risk taking type. Its no surprise the cards came tumbling down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

Greed became systemic in the banking sector. We must remember however not to tar them all with the same brush, they weren't all morally deficient. There's bad apples in every profession.

Humans are selfish and need rules and enforcement to ensure they work together for the greater good. Some say that power corrupts but the truth is that power enables corruption that already exists.

If humans were inherently honest or fair then we would not need referees in games. Even when there is little at stake people cheat so imagine when people are given power over all that money.

All the people who take the high morel ground if they were placed in the same institutions would act the same. Bankers are **** and people are evil ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,619 ✭✭✭ilovesleep

Yes! The way money is made eventually leads to debt slavery. With many countries economies gone tits up, it's exactly what we are seeing now. We're heading for a worldwide depression soon enough if we're not there already that is but governments and the media are kepping it under wraps.

Due to the way money is made it makes bankers rich. The richest 2% in the world are bankers.

we created a global society whose success is based on economic and financial growth.

then we gave the control of these finances to a privately controlled sector and regulated it with a soft hand.....

    control = power = greed + corruption

    its human nature

3 posts in and it's already turned into a religious debate, someone mention the nazis already so we can Goodwin this thread and get it out of the way...

I find it absolutely crazy these ass hats got away with this for so long, not one person put their hand up and said "hang on, these guys are committing massive fraud, that's surely illegal!".

It is a profession that attracts a fair number of sociopathic personalities.

I don't think they are delibiretly setting out to hurt, ergo not evil. When you have enough power to control they fall into the trap of forgetting they're meant to help people, not the other way around. Some examples must be made to show that bankers are not above the rest of us. Jail is a good start. Strong regulation is even better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 738 ✭✭✭crazy cabbage

No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the sources of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

I think there was a survey done that shows top bankers are generally prone to be more nihilistic or a tad sociopathic:

Evil?! tell that to their mothers, who see it as a highly respectable position in only wanting what's best for them.

Sad thing is they too, want only what's best for them. Bankers have been known as **** long as I know n that can only have increased

Scummy, useless, greedy, defrauding, manipulating, managerial inept and incompetent, lowlife fúckwits. But to associate Satan with bankers? Dude give Satan a break.

Majority of bankers are simply slaves to the same system we are, trying to pay the bills, and support their family. Like in other industries the unscrupulous move up the ladder to management and beyond.

If you make your money by dealing with money, there's gonna be opportunists I just find it very suspect a person can sit down and say what do I wanna do with my life.. count fùcking money. But sure you'll be doin that anyhow come payday? I find it deeply sad and suspicious. Indicative

    I am offended.

I have been an investment banker since I graduated from UCD !

Just because I am handsome, handsomely paid & a lady killer does not give you the right to generalise that us stylish execs are all dickheads.

It's paupers like you with sh*t jobs that give the majority of the common man a bad name !

In other countries they mean investment bankers usually. Since there are no investment bankers in Ireland some people do get confused.

I never get why people see banks as institutions. They are money making businesses. They're not out for the common good nor should they be.

First they came for the socialists...

I imagine Banking is a machine which turns on rules that nobody has a real say in ....you do your job or go home .Governments are there to appoint the rule makers but the fellah sitting at his desk or in front of a monitor does his job and no more .That's as much as i understand it .Very few people in Banking make decisions .Banks Fail because governments fail to put correct mechanisms in place and those mechanisms have to be watched .They were'nt .

They still are morally responsible for what happens though. Just because it is a minor role doesn't mean that it isn't important.

But the religious view is that evil is ingrained in the person or forced on a person. The sensible view is that people have different morals depending on how they were brought up/their personality, unless they're a sociopath or something. I don't believe anyone is truly evil.
