    Controller does look pretty slick.

I do like how a lot of things now are returning to a more basic design. For a few years there everything had to be curves, looks like these big companies are finally discovering the rulers they are thrown in the corner for years.

I'm banking on the iphone 6(?) looking like this

So the 360 was called the 360 because MS thought people would look at the Xbox 2 and think it was less powerful than the PS3. Now the new Xbox is the XBox One?

Is there an echo in here?! :D

So does anyone think the 360 or PS3 will be remembered as classic games machines? I really can't see it myself for the 360, the PS3 I think will be more fondly remembered. I don't see a lot of current gen games really aging well.

We may look back on the 360 in the same light we do the Saturn for shmup ports.

Other than that... Dark Souls and Child of Eden..can't really think of anything else timeless?

Bullet hell shooters, meh. The saturn was a much better shmup machine.

And pushed out on to the table while people are focused on other matters is this tidbit of information:

I would have thought the 360 shone brighter than the heap that is the PS3 (and I don't mean the red lights :pac:).

At the start yes. It had some nice exclusives like Gears of War and third party games run much better. XBLA was a revelation as well with some nice exclusive indie games. In the last few years exclusives on the 360 have dried up while the PS3 has got some really great exclusive content and stepped up their game with PSN. Developers have moved away from XBLA but PSN has still been quite good. I much preferred the 360 but in the last few years the PS3 has been on top by a considerable margin.

    Only time will tell really.

So future rarities on the way in the next year for the 360?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,036 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

MS have dropped development on the 360. Only rarities seem to be the PAL version of Tales of Vesperia.

I think Xbox ran the scene looking back.
Xbox live was a phonomenon, and Sony just followed.
    Achievements, kenetic etc.
At the end of the current gen the two have come in line with leaps in gaming.
Looks like microsoft are moving towards the multimedia angle with xbox one and hopefully moulding great innovations.
Still at the end of the day I would always feel like a spastic talking to my console, since rainbow six nothing has changed.its easier and quicker to push a button!
    Bring on the games

I think somebody had been watching Back To The Future 2 when they came up with the talking to your console idea.

Hoped I wouldn't dig up this gem again, but with The Xbox One having you to be online to activate a game disc (and charging full price to activate a used copy of all things), it seems relevant to post it.

..blocked used games, requiring a net connection for pretty much the sole reason of checking that you're not doing anything MS dont want you to?
so..at what point did console manafacturers flat out drop any pretense that they didnt actively hate their customers?
(..also when you start making Sony look like the good guys , you are doing something seriously wrong..)
Its PC gaming for me from now on.
Might pick up a 360 in a year or two for the few exlusivesssSS!!!11 I missed as a ps3 owner.
The 1/one/whatever is zero use to me as a retro collector so probably will miss it completely (might pick up a dead one in a few years just to 'have' for the collection, dont see myself playing it though..

So we have CD keys now with the Xbox One to tie our games to our accounts. Also for single player games your xbox needs to be connected to the internet once every 24 hours or you can't play them. Sounds like that time MS banned me for not cancelling my XBOX Live subscription on a temporary credit card and removed my access from the XBLA games I owned because I couldn't connect to XBox Live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

After watching the video yesterday I think I'm more inclined to skip this new gen although ill probably pick up a wii u in time for Zelda and Mario etc..

All this it's the only unit u need for entertainment **** and having to be online 24/7 **** does my head in.

    I think I'm getting old.

I was playing sonic 2 last night after all. What a game!

I read an interview about trading games with friends and it said "Bringing a game to your friends house and playing on your account gives you permission to play it there"....eh the price tags gives me all the permission! Sony can really capitalise now because the xbox one announcement is already going down as a disaster.

I havn't read any updates since logging off last night, last I heard MS came out & denied you needed to purchase a pass for used games? Has it been reconfirmed again? Whats this 24 hour thing, is it for real? If so, thats the decision made for what Father Xmas might bring this year

It's all confirmed. Eurogamer had Phil Harrison explain it to them then were called back in for another interview while he tried to clarify it some more:

If Sony are not going to do similar, then MS are taking a huge risk with this system

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,726 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

Sony already confirmed that there are no plans or mechanism played in place to prevent used discs being sold/played (for now at least).

Personally, I think its a great idea as it means I won't now be buying an Xbox and can use the funds for more retro purchases :)

You know you're doing something wrong, when you make Sony look good. And I know I've been really critical of Sony in the past, but just give me a games console & some games...Sony can do that. MS want me to have to have Kinect, wave my arms around like an idiot, have great tv features that'll never be available over here, have to be online every 24 hours, have to pay for a licence for a used game...jeez, take my money Sony. And also, PS+!! How amazing is that service....MS have it all do to do sway me it seems

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,653 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Just getting around to reading up on this Xbox One doohickey.
    What a frakking fup up.
So, as we are all collectors and looking ahead to the days when the console will be getting on, if they decide to shut down the servers some day bang goes your game library.
It also gives Ms control of your purchases, in fact all we'll be buying is the right to use their games, if they want to yank that permission they potentially can, akin to the behaviour of Amazon with Kindle purchases.
I think I'll buy another Jaguar instead!

Lol I'm not sure arm waving will be mandatory, presumably you can still operate the machine with the controller. But even if you can't, nobody is going to see you looking like an idiot or else just perfect some gangster style poses. :pac:

I don't like the idea of the camera being on all the time and the machine being connected to the net.

That Phil Harrison link above is a PR mess. He's talking BS and contradicting himself. How I read it is: you buy a game, install it, register it to your account. You can only play that game for free on another machine if you are logged in using your own profile. Otherwise you have to pay (presumably close to full price).

Having to connect at least once a day to play your own games (even single player) is basically just an extended rental agreement, you no longer properly own the game like you do with a 360 disc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Aye I'm sure the pad will suffice & the arm waving won't be mandatory :D But the Kinect will be mandatory, the console won't work without it. Its a camera on all the time, it has a mic listening all the time, it phones home at least once a day...jeez, 1984 material :pac:

Seriously though, Kinect is another box to have to find a space for, more wires, another plug probably...I just don't want to have to have it.

The used games thing is a the big one for me though, & I know in the eyes of the law you never really 'own' your games in the way we perceive owning them, but if the PS4 allows me to avail of 3 for 2 offers, & €10/€15 used games a while down the line, then happy days.

my concern is that they'll try apply this single licence s*** to the 360 versions of games also released on XB1

Hi guys, thought I might get some advice here.
Recently bought a yellow 3ds XL off eBay from a trusted seller with over 2000 positive feedback.
Got a mail from him saying there was a delay on the stock and could I wait.
Waited to the expected arrival no sigh, so refund.
No contact from seller within 24 hours after previously being quite verbose, so opend a dispute on eBay. Got bounced to PayPal so opend it there.
Dispute was them closed by seller as he offered a full refund.
    Status pending until account cleared.
Email from PayPal this morning saying refund failed.
Can't reopen a case through either PayPal or eBay as according to them, I got my full refund.
There advice is to contact seller.

Is there anything I can do here? It's €195!

Hmm, a bit disturbing you thinking about my "junk". :D

Wonder will the machine still work if you cover the camera or turn it to the wall etc.

Jesus, have you rang paypal and ebay and told them what happened, usually a phone call does more than an email.

Have only read a bit about Xbox One but can't say I'm particularly, it looks weird, I don't want to have to use Kinect, I don't want a "Relationship" with my TV FFS, I don't want it to have to have an internet connection, I want to be able to swap games with my mates, I don't want to have to pay for an online membership to use half the features. the games are going to have to be really impressive to interest me.

In fairness PS4 far from blew me away either and at this rate it'll probably be 2015 before I buy any next generation hardware but right now Steam is looking more and more the way to go.

Yeah rang paypal. Couldn't find there number and I was freaking out, as the email they sent when it failed, basically had a vibe of your ****ed!
Got it sorted. That's some bleedin' loophole for scammers though.

What a way to start the day but the good news is I have €200 in my paypal again.

So what actually happened, he was able to close the dispute simply by saying "yeah I refunded the buyer"??

Whoever looked for their refund straight away got refunded as he hadnt time to transfer it to his bank account.
Whoever foolishly believed him and waited got caught as he had the money transferred from his paypal to his account and withdrawn.
So he can close the dispute by giving a refund knowing that paypal will not be able to get money from his paypal balance or his linked bank account.
But because he offered a refund the dispute can't be reopened.
Lucky I was still inside the 45 days I think.

He had decent feedback up until recently but just looked there now and he has gotten a few negatives where he has pulled this stunt.

Paypal refunded the funds so its all good.

    Ah right :(

To avoid those issues, this is what I tend to do.

Someone pays me money via paypal -> extracted from paypal to my bank account ASAP
If I then want to send a payment via paypal ->payment sent via credit card

At no point would I trust paypal to have my money sitting in their account with no links to anything else. Have heard far too many horror stories of them freezing accounts...and now yours to add to it too! :(
