Hi all was renting for 10months when we had enough of been sick and freezing cold all the time and left 2months early. The house had a huge amount of problems some were as follows: Everthing damp like clothes, curtains anything really throughout the property and mould growth throughout the whole place(black and green on walls and windows) We had many clothes, shoes , documents and pillows and more all destroyed from it been so damp. After complaining about the conditions within a month of been there they drilled a few holes and these were left open for a further 2 months with a draft coming from them, these were drilled and a special silicone was sprayed into them so they said. Basically cut this short as too much to put in we got the enviromental health out and they visited twice where a lot of recommendations were put to the landlord with a time limit. The answer given after the second visit was that while we were still in the property they would do no work as major structural work had to be carried out. Also was never shown or given a copy of the BER cert learnt all this when it was too late I was wondering if anybody had similar problems renting and have any ideas how to go about retrieving my €950 deposit. Sorry for long thread...

Do you have documentation from the Environmental Health visit? Even better if you have documentation from the landlord saying that the work needed to rectify the situation could not be done with tenants around. That should prove the place was uninhabitable to Threshold and/or the PRTB.

Sounds like you have a good case, you just need the paper trail to prove it.

Hi Ghandi Thanks. I requested the documents from the Freedom of information act. They sent out the first report which didnt give much info so have been back onto them 3 times and got an email with a few additional bits but would really like to get the letter the landlord sent to the enviro health officer. Have to say they were great and came out and pointed out that the fridge freezer was to small, smoke alarms not correct ones, gas boiler wasnt maintained properly, no cooker extractorand lots more was a complete dump really went in with are eyes closed was first place to rent and thought it was cool for been beside a farm and open fields...
