Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was shooting for my friends band "Sum Yung Wans" upstairs in Dolans, Limerick last night.

Lighting was really nice compared to the last couple events I've done

This was the first event where I attempted to shoot the crowd, there was hardly any light so I ended up only getting a couple shots of people at the very front getting the bleed light from the stage. I don't use a flash.

I took approximately 280 shots, and ended up processing about 35, then chose 30 from those. Would appreciate some C&C for these, and maybe some more in the album. I feel like I'm taking the same shots over and over. I was limited to a small area at one side of the stage as there was no standing room on the other sides and I didn't want to risk my gear by standing among people with drinks while they danced.

In case anyone is wondering, all shots were taken on a 600D with a 50mm F1.4. Was shooting at 800 iso/125th/wide open for most of the night

1st things 1st, when the light is as bad as it is in ur pics I prefer to use flash, most here won't and I'd call them flash snobs but if used right and in tandem with good PP you can get decent shots...90% of my gigs are in dingy unlit venues.

    1) Way to dark and in need of better framing/cropping, not sure if u shot in raw or jpeg but if u shot in raw you would have been able to fix the white balance to make them less red looking, you've caught him doing a nice action but again his face is so dark and a member of the audience is in the way...

    2) Light a bit better here but to catch a drummer well surely you have to feel the action and energy that drummers generally have..

    3) Framing /cropping again needs work and if photographing a guitarist/Bassist it's always good to see the full guitar including the head.

    4) Decent catch

    5) Probably my fav of the set, pity the guitar head is there as it's distracting.

    6) Too much distraction in this pic...

Does ur camera handle shooting iso at 3200? worth experimenting to see..

Thanks. I always shoot in raw. I'm no flash snob, but I don't have the money to buy an external flash and there is no way I'm using the pop up one. I tired to keep the atmosphere of the night, I didn't convey it with this set, but towards the end of the gig about 15 people stormed the stage and it was chaos, the final pic is me looking through the crowd to see someone forcing a kiss on the drummer mid song.

About the drummer: yeah it's a really boring pic, the bassist was right in front of me so I wasn't able to get a shot of him at pretty much any other time so I kept just snapping shots of him when I could.

    1) I shot from inside the audience, I thought it seemed like what the crowd were seeing, the crowd in the way/bad crop added to that I feel, but it's definitely not a good shot, I just thought it went with the whole atmosphere of the night

It doesn't handle any high iso very well at all unfortunately, 800 is nearly the absolute limit without getting horrible noise, which is a pity

Thanks for your thoughts and your shots of those drummers are really fantastic
