Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When this Fair play thing comes in, a team may only spend what's coming in, then all this bollox will stop.

Think it's for the start of next season

    Agree completely.

If the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, Inter, Juve are forced to only spend what they bring in, then they will threaten UEFA that they will break away and form their own leagues/CLs, and as a result UEFA will cave in.

I think FFP will have an effect, precisely because it is what the powerful clubs in Europe will want.

Man United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan can all live within their means and still spend money due to their massive revenues.

You can be sure they will be putting massive pressure on Uefa, because they will not be happy with Man City, Chelsea, Malaga, PSG etc spending whatever they want.

The old clubs wield far more power than the new rich ones imo

Ah i am sure all of the clubs will abide by the rules.

In other news a relatively unknown Russian billionaire named Oman Rambramovich has offered to sponsor each corner flag at stamford bridge for 25m each year in a 10 year deal.
Manchester City, PSG, FC Anzhi etc are closely monitoring developments. :)

How is it "bollox"? Its making football more competetive and entertaining. In England for example, without sugar daddies it would have been just Man Utd winning the league 11 out of the last 14 years.

Is there not already a rule that covers the football league where clubs have to live within their means ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,277 ✭✭✭batistuta9

Nobody except the teams who're at the top, if this comes in will win the league ever again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,592 ✭✭✭✭CSF

In England, nobody but the teams at the top will ever win the league anyway, unless they get funded millions by some madlad.

    It's watertight,that will not work.

I disagree that teams like United would not flourish under the FFP rules, it would actually give us an advantage over our two main rivals considering we have more revenue then them and could offer more wages as well.

Teams like Chelsea and City, and in Europe PSG would not have a hope though. I actually have no idea how PSG are going to manage considering all the players they are signing and more importantly the wages they are shelling out in relation to turnover

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

United would easily have a much bigger advantage over all the other clubs.

Spurs and Arsenal would be the next clubs to benefit massively from this. Both clubs would be able to maintain and improve their teams.

Chelsea and City are running massive losses.
Then there is also the fact that City's massive 400 million deal with ethiad looks like it could not be counted in the ffp rules because of the close relationship between the owners of both companies.

that's kinda what i meant though, if they come in & are enforced, nobody except the top 3/4 will win the league again

there'll be no way for clubs like chelsea to make the leap from the CL places to title contenders, or clubs like city to win leagues, even for clubs like tottenham to challenge for CL places.

the teams in the top places are already established & will be generating more income, than those like newcastle say, who'd need a good bit of money to make them title challengers

& the same handful of teams always win the big leagues in europe anyway, bar maybe france

There will always be ways around it. There is nothing to stop Al-Wahda (Owned by Sheikh Mansours brother) signing Costel Pantilimon for €200 million and Sheikh Mansour giving his brother a birthday present of €200 million.

Or how about Roman Abramovich starting up a Table tennis league starring John "Ping Pong" Terry, Eden "The Bat Man" Hazzard and Ashley "Ace" Cole. He can pay his players minimum wage for football and 100 grand a week for their "table tennis" exploits. UEFA cant stop the lads having part time jobs to pay the bills. Its a tough life being on minimum wage ;)

It's been said many times that any irregular financial deals would be investigated. Sudden moves like those in your post would be blocked.

In terms of an unusual massive transfer for a mediocre player, UEFA cant just decide how much a player is worth otherwise they will be setting the transfer fees for everybody but im sure they may be able to police it.

I dont see how UEFA can punish a club because their players take up part time "work" in another field. It would be against employment laws. I also question how UEFA can find out officially about side payments. They have no authority to look at Sheikh Mansours or Roman Abramovichs personal bank accounts. Nor do they have the authority to look at John Terrys wifes bank account after she takes up the role of "Real Estate consultant" for Mr Abramovich, paying a cool 7 million a year.

Unless the owners put the tickets prices to £1000 each and a billionaire friend of thiers "gifts" each person that buys a ticket £970 ish (depending on current ticket prices) towards their tickets when buying :)

Maybe some rich Arab oil Sheiks company will choose to sponsor City ,say for £300m. Some Russian guy might choose to get his company to sponsor Chelsea for massive money too.

    EDIT, beaten too it. :-(

With the likes of QPR, Leeds, Notts etc getting new owners, I can see the game just moving more towards money. There will be no rich clubs as all the to sides will be owned by oil billionaires.

    I hear ya.

Really hard to pick the right team to support when some nobody might end up being the best.

    :'(
