You will find them figures are well outdated now, there was a more updated list a while back, there is well in excess of 1000 reserve members, and more in training.

So in 2011 for every 5 people who attended interview for reserves, four were successful,if only it'd be same for full time!

Yeah, an 80% pass rate, suddenly I don't feel so smug about having passed it!

Yeah but perhaps the more interesting data is the pass rate from the PAS interview; the number of resignations and the fact that 40 reserves have been taken on full time in previous campaigns; and the fact that 'One member’s services were dispensed with'.

Maybe the main reason for most of the resignations is emigration followed by those who are or will be over 35 by the time recruitment comes around.

Or could it be that they where not accepted by regulars, or other problems working alongside them, been left in the station etc, as i know quite a few that left for that reason, the age problem should not be a reason to leave, why would it be, im sure they will overcome the age problem within reason, the reason the age limit is there was because of the pensions issue, but as that is due to change next year when you will only get what you pay in, the age thing will become a thing of the past for all employers.

Deputy Alan Shatter:I have been informed by the Garda authorities that as of 31 May 2012, the latest date for which figures are readily available, the strength of the Garda Reserve was 918, with a further 225 in training.
