But to placate yourself; one place/district I find underrated in Dublin is China Town on Parnell St. An awful lot of people just don't know about it. Fantastic value imo

A part of the city I really have to explore a bit more.

    Underrated:

Harry's on Dawson St (great food at half the price of most restaurants serving similar quality).

    Overrated:

Gerry's of Montague St (the fry was one of the worst I've ever had).

Big fan of the Spire here too. I particularly like how you can see it from a long way off at night.

Would agree on Ciao Bella Roma and add Ristorante Romano on Capel Street.

Should be in the overrated category for me. It always puzzles me the amount of tourists that go way down Henry St to get a photo of what is essentially a 10 year old metal spike that knackers tend to congregate under. If the whole thing was lit up like in the artists impression drawings of what it'd be like then it'd be more noteworthy. Instead we have tourists thinkings its our landmark; London has Big Ben/Tower Bridge, Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Rome the Trevi Fountain, Amsterdam has Dam Square, Brussels has the Palace, Berlin the Brandenberg gates... I could go on. We have a big ****ing metal spike.

For me it symbolises all that is/was wrong with modern Ireland.

For me the landmark of Ireland is the amazing new Samuel Beckett Bridge (this coming from an american ;) )

    Underrated:

The best pint of Guinness in the world dare I say; Mulligans - Poolbeg Street. McTurcails and O Reilly's also for cheap pints with good company.

Chester Beaty library in Dublin castle is amazing for anyone with an interest in Oriental/Persian history.

Crossguns snooker hall in Phibsboro is a good spot to spend a Saturday afternoon.

    Overrated:

All nightclubs to be honest. Especially Palace.

    Charlie's restaurants. Yuck.

    Dublin Zoo.

Underrated: Circular walk from Butt Bridge (at Tara St dart station) down to Samuel Beckett bridge and back the other side. Lovely walk, not too much traffic in most parts or wide paths so you don't notice it.

    Overrated: Temple Bar, Grafton St

    Underrated:

    Canal side walks
Did a job interview near the Mespil hotel and with nothing better to do that evening I walked home along the canal all the way to Inchicore. Enjoyed that walk a lot. Warm evening so was sweating near the end but it was relaxing :)

Also walking through Stephens Green on a hot day, enjoying the shade and taking a moment to wet your hands in the pond and cool your forehead

Banter with taximen. I know what's said about them on boards but 99% are working men with great chat and stories to tell.
I never use ranks, I always flag them so maybe I get them in better form

Another vote for the Epicuran Food Hall, have been there a few times and have never liked it

Chapters book store. Huge selection, fantastic layout but the owner/manager is an ass. If you've been there I've sure you've come across this gentlemen, probably sneered, looked down at you and made you feel stupid for asking a basic question.

Em, You've just mentioned 4 reasons why many dubs go there. Then to add to that, there's a good music venue (the button factory), a nice farmers market (meeting house square), a lovely bakery & some nice pubs (porterhouse).
