Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Prison Service would not comment but it is understood that they left a note saying that they could not stay in the prison.

    Now thats mad ted.

I don't see the big issue...

SUre they only robbed a few parking meters.

should they not have just been deported instead of jailed?

Instead of wasting money keeping them in prison, why not send them back to their homeland? It's not like they will stop once they get released.

Thats what I thought too! For the price of keeping them locked up, they could have gone to Australia first class never mind Romania.

Stealing from parking meters = jail.

Wow, they must have stolen from A LOT of parking meters.

    Due out next April!?

When did they go in? What exactly was the sentence for stealing from parking meters? Sounds to me like they got about a year in prison for stealing (what must be, in the grand scheme of things) a fairly minimal amount of money?

Stab someone in the face repeatedly, or stab multiple people (as was the case in Drogheda a while ago) and you're on the street again in less than a week. But take a few Euro from the traffic warden and you're banged up for a year?

Country needs a serious, serious overhaul, fast.

They even left a note. Fair play to them.

Seemingly got over a year for it as well, pretty weird.

Presumably it would be criminal damage as well as the theivin, as I doubt they opened them with a key.

not even from the warden...from the meters it seems...easy targets get punished worst....not worst crime gets worst punishment as one might expect

justice system as regards applying consequences for serious crime needs one imo

They even left a note. Fair play to them.

    meh

Fair play to them. They should make a movie about it. But where do they think they're going? This is small island. They will be caught soon.

Although in my opinion they should be let escape back where they came from. Save a few quid.

Messing with parking meters didn't go well for Cool Hand Luke either.

Will they get longer sentences for escaping? Presuming they'll be caught. Some prison officer is getting serious ****e off his bosses today.....

I doubt they'll be caught. Off to NI last night and catch the ferry to a new life.

People have swindled, hundredths of thousands, millions and billions from this country and still walk free living the high life. Probably won't even spend a minute behind bars for it.

A couple of fellas steal a few euros, possibly 100's and get jail. If you or I don't pay our TV license we probably get jail. What is wrong with this picture? I'm afraid the old saying is wrong. It should be; There's one law for the poor and no law for the rich.

believe me there is more than 1 law, or it would never work.

I hope they're the right size for their sakes, or Michael O'Leary will carry out a citizens arrest at the airport.

What seems to be "The Big Issue" here ?

    lol

perhaps they should have been sentanced to have a conversation with Alan Shatmepants
instead, a far more harsh punishment imo

Predator would be better, Tommy Lee would only have them locked up again, and they wouldn't need a cell if their giblets were hanging from a trophy-tree.

Well...this is terribly Irish, isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,798 ✭✭✭goose2005

In 2012 a crack parking-meter infiltration unit was sent to prison by an Irish court for a crime they probably committed. These men promptly escaped from a medium security prison to the Roscommon underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the R-Team.

    Can you tell us how?

Going by the court cases (this seems to have been fairly common in Galway with all the defendants seemingly Romanian) it appears you can get over €1000 in coins from a machine if you rob it at the right time, and the repairs to it can cost over €5000 per machine.

So hit 10 machines in a night, get €10K and leave Glway council down €60K in total.

Hardly the small victimless crime of a few hundred euro that people are indicating above.

The government needs to put up a bounty so my mates and I can travel around the country in a pick-up truck, brandishing shotguns, and listening to Metallica, while on the lookout for these fugitives.

The fact they left a note saying that they didn't want to stay there is hilarious, they're quite sincere thieves, aren't they?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,117 ✭✭✭Rasheed

You'd think they'd release pictures of them. We could be throwing them our change on some corner as we speak.

Stake out a parking meter? Anyone?

Your figures are a tad overblown:

contents of pay and display machine valued at €1,007.85
contents of a pay and display machine valued at €415
the cost of replacing the specialised vaults and cash boxes is estimated at nearly €700

One of them was to be ordered back to Romania after their sentence was finished in April 2013. RTE News didn't say if the other brother was also to be deported.

The Irish Prison Service certainly has a lot to answer for with 3 escapes now from prisons this year.
