R.I.P. Jon. One of the greatest keyboarders ever. He will surely be missed.

Oh no, devastated if true, I loved DP and he was one of the best keyboard players in rock, incorporating excellent musical elements to rock in the same vein as his progressive counterparts in the 70's. I loved his music and this is a great shame, could've had many more years ahead of him at 71.

Can you post up a link to this, I can't seem to find anything through Google as of yet anyway.

Heard it on Planet Rock who are playing Purple tracks at the moment and have just announced a Jon Lord special from 7 -8 this evening

Grid he has been battling the big C for a while.

Read a while ago he was battling cancer ... terrible shame. RIP

A huge shame. I didn't know he was ill either. He was a fantastic musician and the keyboard player in my own band was massively influenced by his style, he'll be pretty upset to hear of this.

    RIP

My favourite keyboard player bar none. Terribly sad even though it's not a surprise, I saw him in a profile of the noted writer John Mortimer (Rumpole of the Bailey etc) on BBC4 last year and even in that (filmed in 2008) he came across so well as the noisy neighbour!

Here's something from his post Purple solo career

Gutted. The first band I fell in love with was Deep Purple when I was 10 and so much of that for me was Jon Lord.

Very sad news indeed. I was lucky enough to see him with Purple once. He'll be missed.

    RIP

Seen him perform his Concerto in the National Concert Hall in Dublin on the 40th anniversary of the first show. He came across as a gentleman that night.

    He'll be sorely missed. Rip.
