Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's ridiculous really that a country with one only gold medal finishes ahead of a country with 100 silver medals.

It should be 3 points for a gold, 2 for a silver and 1 for a bronze. Or a similar points system.
    You Australian by any chance?!:P
Australian official Olympic broadcaster Channel 9 apparently only showed the first nine table positions - not including NZ in 10th spot - and then Oz in 19th place.

    Gold is where it's at.

Cian O'Connor and Billy Twomey won't be winning any medals as they have faults in the show jumping.
We have 4 real medal chances Katie, John Joe, Michael and Analise, I wouldn't begrudge any of them , they would be top of their own tree regardless of how difficult it was to get there. Let's get behind everyone of them and I will enjoy every minute of every replay and every interview if we win a medal.
I love Boards for a lot of things but begrudgry ain't one of them.

Showjumping scores reset after the next round.

Technically she was born in the USSR, so is not Russian.

All the squadies doing security at the finish, a strange sight if I didn't know any better I would think Britain is a police state.

Just think the amount of countries in the world that actually fear their soldiers.

Wasn't keen on them being brought in myself and wearing their camo gear. They are all just full of smiles around the various sites though and I think you'd struggle to be intimidated by anyone at the Olympics, either the soldiers or the purple outfitted volunteers.

SSSHHHH!! Run_to_da_hills will be in soon spouting some conspiracy nonsense.

I do agree it looks a little unnerving, still if they manage to stop any crazy Irish dancing priests - Job done!

Russia was in existence, even when the Soviet Union was in existence. The USSR was a federation, just like the EU. Are you European or Irish? Or can you be both?

Can one be Soviet and Russian?

    Russia is itself a federation.

    Ukrainian SSR
    Russian SSR etc.

There will be a load of Knighthoods Dames and CBEs dished out after these games. I think the redbutton should also be knighted.

Caitriona Jennings through the 40km mark in 3:09.33 she is the last athlete out on the course....she is injured and was seen crying on the 2nd lap of the marathon course....great heart to be still battling on during the race.

Had to turn it off, that commentator has his tongue so far up the GB sailor's arse he might tip him out of the boat.

I don't think he's come across as arrogant at all. He's been far more steady in his analysis than those asking him the questons. If you are referring to the incident when he had a bit of a Hulk moment, well he genuinely felt cheated. I suppose most people would feel seriously angry at that, and I think his reaction was understandable!

I disagree, I think he showed his true colours in that interview.

6ft Israeli gymnast did better than I thought he would. Impressive for his size, to me at least.

One of the rare - if not only - set of circumstances in which I'd be supporting Her Majestys forces.

Before the inevitable Murray winning=British, Murray losing= Scottish claims appear please note that he's being labeled as a Scot more than British in this article:

Years ago when I was a young lad, I was told to clear out and tidy a store, I found this big piece of plastic so I put all the rubbish on it and threw it all in the skip.

About a month later the owners were turning the place upside down looking for a sail. I did the honourable thing and said nothing, I believe they cost a fortune.

    OK Off topic.

    Damn impressive.

    Tuning to the tennis.
Is the women's boxing meant to be on at some stage?

Is it best of 3 or 5 sets? The live updates have space for 5, but I though only Slam events were best of 5.

Ben Ainlee just got gold which makes it 4 in four Olympics, no matter his personality he is still a great competitor.

People that push that argument are never able to back in up with any proof, which should be abundant and easily accessible in news articles online.

Besides, Murray is competing for Britain. Everybody knows that. Its like the media referring to Jess Ennis as the girl from Sheffield or Wiggins as the Londoner winning in his home city. It doesn't mean they are competing for Sheffield or London respectively.

Caitronia Jennings has just finished the Marathon carrying an injury, an hour behind the winner and nearly an hour over her BP. True Olympic spirit, and still a quicker marathon time than me and a couple of people I know.

    :)

Or surely in the near future, Sir Ben Ainslie!

Womens vault final on soon. Wonder how high that US girl can go this time.

Yet another "way off their personal best" story for an Irish athlete. Fair play to Jennings for completing it but why put herself through it when she is carrying an injury?

I really hate to be negative but it's becoming a bit of a joke at this stage.

I agree. It's a bit strange that at least half our athletes are claiming to be either carrying injuries or having "gastro" problems.
