Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Musically, I think not.

Then, again, you may not be a fan.:D:D

Beijing was just drums and fireworks, right? And lots of bling (and half the fireworks were faked for tv!). Oh yeh, and that scroll thing (which was no better than the chimneys rising up). Definitely more imagination this time....

I thought it was brilliant much better then Beijing,

Then they had to put Beckham's mug into it and it was ruined

Welldone Beckham you have ruined the Olympics for everybody.

I think this means he won't be lighting the torch though, so that's a plus! :)

    Why?

    Haha I fixed it, kinda!

No. They'd just sell the rights to host it every 4 years. It'd make them make billions.

Then there'd be all the spin off merchandising they could cash in on.

Actually, my post was rubbish. Even if they hosted it themselves, it's not like they'd have to build a brand new stadium every 4 years.

    The music looked good alright.

Pretty cheap looking open ceremony compared to the last two Beijing and Sydney ..... But the British will say it was the best of course......

Nah. I thought it was great. Different, but great.

It couldn't keep being a pi$$ing conetest as to who could have the biggest drum band, the most fireworks etc.

I don't agree I think they made up for the lack of funds in comparison with creativity, originality and quality.

I loved the whole thing, the music section was amazing. To spite them leaving out the Smiths:rolleyes:

But one has to bear in mind the number of people who will refuse on principle to admit that London did a good job

Have they referenced The Smiths at all.
    Britishness personified.
Morrissey's rumoured to be a bit of a xenophobe, can't imagine him being too pleased with the influx of foreigners for the Games.

Was in the USA last week. The main news story, along with the Colorado massacre, was that the USA team are going to be wearing berets. French berets! Unpatriotic head wear! Freedom hating hats!

I liked it overall but no Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Doctor Who or Top Gear is disappointing.

I wonder if this pause is a way of getting around the IOCs refusal to mark 40 years since Munich?

Apparently this isn't the thread (or website in fact) for any type of political discussion in relation to the Olympics.

Some person on Facebook getting re-tweeted a lot: "The world is watching and saying 'What? What the f*ck?' And Britain is saying 'This. This is the f*ck.' "

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.
