    Disgraceful ref

    Well done Nevin

I was only following it on the Olympics website, what did the ref do? Or not do.

15-10 final score, which brings Nevin within a match of a medal!

Anyone know what the standard of opponents he's facing is like?

Laser race 6 on BBC 9 (in between other races)

Big shift has left Annalise with a lot of ground to make up. The wind has totally changed with this increase.

Wind has gone right on this beat.. Total change from what's normally been happening this week.. Still, big shifts tend to hurt more then just one sailor!

she's in 22nd on the first split 1:56 down.

    2nd split 24th 2:19

Lying in the centre of the pack here on the first downwind! Remember 2 laps to go and another 40 minutes in it. You have a lot to lose when you're infront and all Annalise can do now is try play the course right and make some gains! #ComeonIreland

He was doing counter attacking boxing but the ref was making it out that he was sitting back trying not to box.

Seems that ESPN are tallying the medals differently between their american and british websites so as to keep them on top of the medals table in Yankeeland.

I thought the same four years ago at Beijing but did some digging and no, its just how they do it over there (not just ESPN its all media). Strange way of doing it though.

Thats because you are on the international edition. On the US edition you get taken to Sports Illustrated here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2012/medals/tracker/

With the sailing, is it a certain amount of points depending on where you finish, or is it just the time that is important ie total time taken to complete all races?

Points equal to where you finish, lowest wins.

Your position is the number of points you get, 10 races, but you can discard your worst score. So your best nine scores are your final score.

Top 10 then go into a medal race, where its double points awarded i.e. first get two points etc, and added to your final score to determine the medal postions

What's happening in the cycling time trial?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 92,624 Mod ✭✭✭✭Capt'n Midnight

    [Result]

    Marit 1st
    Xu 4th
Annalise 19th - so most likely only Marit and Xu won't discard this race , other medal contenders are down as well

    Still two points ahead :)http://london2012.bbc.co.uk/sailing/event/laser-radial-women/phase=saw103906/doc=summary.html

Wiggo has just set off, and with that, and only after 10 minutes coverage, RTE switch sports.

Wonder what Team Sky's orders are today. Would love to see Froome beat Wiggins, he's the better cyclist imo, he won the Tour de France for Wiggins, but got very little of the plaudits outside of the sport.

How many races can you discard? And how much weighting is the final given in comparison to the rest of the races?

Just one. The medal race is for the top ten and has double points

The Eurosport commentators are right with what they say about the cycling crowds, they have been simply incredible. Cycling is clearly on the way up in Britain in terms of interest and exposure and there's very much a good chance that it will have a great effect on cycling in Ireland too. Good times for the sport on these islands ahead.

Why isn't Cavendish in this? Is he not the time trial expert in the Tour? Is Wiggo not just a better all rounder? How come he's winning?

Cavendish is nowhere near the level of timetrialler as the others. Cavendish is the best sprinter in the world, but he cant pump out that consistant pace for long periods.

Gold number 2 anyway for GB! Decent going. They'll clean up in track cycling and athletics

Yeah now. But they were calling it a win from 2/3 way through the races. He could have fallen or anything

    Boxing

If there was a drinking event we'd win that too...

Britain's national broadcaster celebrating the amazing success of British competitor?

Surely he will be Sir Bradley Wiggins now? First British winner of the TdF and the winner of more olympic medals than anybody else from the UK!

Wiggins with Gold. Greatest Olympian for GB ever.

Na but should get bronze anyway. Same with O'Neill. We'll probably get the three medals which isn't bad for us!
