    They were there to make a river avoid a hotel.

    The hotel made its money from tourists looking to see the turtles.

    This quite a sad epic fail.

    True. Not only that but like the_syco said, the turtles must surely the biggest draw of tourists to the area and by default the biggest attraction for the hotel's customers. Even if you remove the conservation impact from the equation this still seems just so stupid.
