    Hi all,
Visiting Cork next week for three days (staying in Charleville but have car so will be out and about). I have been looking at various sites for 'things to do' but most of the reccomendations are museums and castles...my two boys are 6 and 13 and not that fond of museums etc....I plan to go to fota one of the days but have nothing planned for the other two days. I would appreciate some local knowledge of good places to visit and eat...fair play and thanks :)

Alternatively you could do something like this in Cork City.

    Hi

    I second Ballyhass lakes.

Also Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll is free and a nice way to spend an hour or two. There is a playground in Liscarroll village too. (No cafe or anything in Liscarroll, but you are near Mallow which like Charleville has a variety of places). Liscarroll is about 10mins from Charleville on the mallow side

Doneraile Park is free and is gorgeous. There is a really well equiped playground there and kids of all ages love it. The park walk itself is really nice and you will see deer. (Walk varies from 2-4km depending on which route you take) Lots of kids take bikes/flikers there. There is also lots of acres of open green areas for picnic football etc.

springfort Hall Hotel is near Doneraile Park (A 5min drive) Gorgeous hotel, does really good bar food.
Mallow has a range of places to eat: MacDonalds, HiBernian hotel, lots of cafes and chippers on Main Street, chineses and an Indian. And a cinema, and a kids soft play centre, called Little rascals

If you are in Kanturk Thomas Browns restauranthas a very varied menu, really lovely. THe Vintage restaurant is really lovely too
Kanturk has a big town park and a cinema. (normally does 3pm showings in holidays), Joan Buckleys diner above cinema is really good too. Lots of other chippers and 2 (i think) chinese restaurants in Kanturk.

Also check out Ballyhoura activities. It is near Charleville. I dont know much about it but it should have biking activities to suit your 13year old. Google should help you here.

To eat in Charleville, hotel is good. There are a few places on Main St.
Charleville has an outdoor playground too

Buttercup Pet farm is 20mins from Charleville on the Limerick side
Croom itself is lovely, nice mill etc

Adare village is gorgeous too about 30mins from Charleville
I know these are Limerick but as Charleville is on the border I felt it was only fair

Leahy s pet farm is one of the betterones in Cork

So really it depends on what you and your kids are into, I hope this helps,
    Enjoy your stay:)
