Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As advised in another thread I've started this one.

I had an awkward moment this morning when I bumped into someone I haven't seen in about a year. I had heard from a very good source that his wife had left him due to finding him looking at child pornography but this wasn't general knowledge yet. So I just did an awkward "Well" and went about my business. How would all of you AHers have handled this?

That was a hijacked feminism website I'll have you know.

Dont worry, think it was maybe a redirect after looking at a feminist website.

Ask him if he'd been talking to any priests.

Where did you bump into him? Once it wasn't near a creche or orphanage i'd have just nodded the head and kept going.

If he was actually convicted and its not just hearsay id have called him a nonce to his face.

It was his wifes, awkward moment off the back of his n she shouldn't have made it everyone else's by him still being free to brazenly roam the town unabated. He thinks no-one knows? I dunno if that's worse punishment or not.

Was just about to post something similar..

I would've asked him was it true. Straight out.
"Rumour has it, your missus left you for looking at Kiddy porn. Dunno if it's true or not, but thought you should know, that it's doing the rounds.."

Give the man a chance.. He's gonna be found guilty, without trial if those rumours gather momentum. He may have been looking at younger women.. (I prefer oul wans myself :p )

Boards.ie doesn't have a spell checker. Might it be your internet browser is doing the spell checking and you have it set up with an American dictionary?

Mate told me he walked into the local Subway up here that there was a guy coming out of it and the girl behind the counter was looking disgusted and was calling him a perv and all that. He got to the counter and she showed him a sheet of paper and on it it was a letter explaining that he was a sex offender, that he had just moved into the area and that he had to leave it around all businesses in Letterkenny.

I'm not sure if it specified exactly what he did but i thought it was a good way of

    A) Shaming the perv
    B) Spreading the word about him

Wonder do they have a notice board out the back or something

There are plenty of cases where the ex-wife accused the man of abusing the children, watching child porn or whatever, as a form of extra punishment. In most of those cases its false accusations but once accused, marked for life.

I wouldn't be too fast to judge - especially given that its a rumor and he wasnt arrested? Who would start such a rumor when being divorced? hum hum..

Just ask him what websites he recommends

sorry i should have just said a letter really! but yeah it had all his details etc on it. Guessing the judge had it as part of his sentance or release that anywhere there could be children maybe he had to warn the staff.

I'm sure he had to hand it out in other places too though

Could infact be a rouse in order to make his wife look good when she could be a complete fvcking bitch making up stories in order to make her self look good...

To be fair though OP until you know for sure i'd say nothing.

A friend of mine got divorced a few years ago and all was good for a while until she went a tad crazy and accused him of having child porn on the laptop. Guards landed down to confiscate the laptop and search it.

This lad would have played some online poker so it was a real pain for him and a way to get at him you could say.

It took six months before the guards gave him the laptop back and not one image (bar the normal porn that any guy would have) was found.

Throw **** at a wall and some sticks but thankfully nobody seems to give a f*ck as they all know how bat sh*t crazy the ex was.

But thats gingers for you i guess.....

Embarassing! I'm never good at meeting people who have had rumours spread about them. I find that if they are coming towards you a distraction of some sort allows you to look busy. That's why I always carry around a bag of china plates with me so I can drop them at a moments notice and disperse the tension.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,235 ✭✭✭✭Cee-Jay-Cee

Your weak "well" greeting indicated to him that you know about his break up and the reason for it too and because you actually spoke to him you were showing him you don't condone what he done, so well done OP you are now part of his kiddie fiddling club. You will be getting all sorts if sordid emails from him and he will probably want to visit to talk "shop" with you soon. In future when this sort of thing happens to you again, because lets face it you clearly are predisposed to befriending paedophiles, you need to walk up to the person, punch them squarely in the face and simply say 'No.' They will understand what you mean.
