A build for a friend who wants a gaming PC without spending too much. He wants to spend €500 - €600 but isn't buying for a month or so so I went over a bit.

Anything I can change? Im going to overclock it a bit as well.

    The total is €688

I think I'd change just everything there :) Including the vendor.

Look at some standard builds here from HWV - 2500K processor, 8GB of bog standard RAM. Have a read of the PSU thread. I'd go for a 6870 over that 550Ti but could be wrong.

    Mobo ASrock one everyone uses...

I wish my script thingy worked I must get that sorted.

Oh and an SSD if budget allows

haha this was just a quick idea at specs. i5, 4 gigs, graphics card to run bf3 and be capable of overclocking.

Terrible build, that card would struggle with battlefield at mid settings. Also that i5 isn't capable of overclocking so no need for an aftermarket cpu cooler.

Here's something €30 cheaper than your build that would blow it out of the water.

    Item|Price
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€36.70
    ASRock Z77 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€90.77
    WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 3 6Gb/s|€60.65
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.57
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€41.19
    LG GH22NS50/70/90 bare schwarz|€17.78
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155|€202.99
    XFX RADEON HD 6870 900M 1GB DDR5, 2 x MINI-DP, 2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI|€150.66
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€651.30

Beat me to it but the build above mine is better that the one I did.

How do you get that bloody script to work I just get a black box over my basket.

EDIT Well apart from the 2500K imo - there's so little price difference between a 2500K and a 3570K these days.

His does have a hard drive which is always a bonus /facepalm self

Here's one within the €600 budget, just looses the overclocking capability. Better to spend the bit extra in the long wrong.

I was just trying to cheapen the build so went with the 2500k over the 3750k, not much of a difference but if he wanted to spend another 15 quid he should fire away.
I use chrome and save the script as a bookmark and then just click it when i need it, works every time, never worked for me when i just tried to copy and paste it

I'm using Opera do you have to log into the website? I have the script bookmarked also - strange.

I don't log in so it's not that anyway.

Just what I was looking for lads cheers! The only thing is I doubt he's going go for bank transfer payment. We'll see.

I've been well out of the loop for overclocking, the last time it was when I got a G0 stepping CPU and I doubt it's the same!? What am I supposed to be looking for? I keep seeing this 2500k?

2500k or 3750k are the best for a gaming build. No reason to go for a more expensive i7 as the only difference is they have hyperthreading which is of little use in gaming. The 3750k is the new version of the 2500k so is a little dearer and doesn't offer much of an improvement so if on a tight budget it's just as good to go with the 2500k. Make sure it's the k variant otherwise it will not be overclockable.

2500K slower per Mhz but cooler, over clocks better (4.8Ghz ish) cheaper
    PCI-e 2.x

3570K faster per Mhz hotter, over clocks worse (4.6Ghz ish) more expensive
PCI-3 3.0, better integrated iGPU (used to boost frame rates in some games).

Basically they give about the same performance pushed to their limit which may be higher than I've indicated.
