Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He is probably of the sponging type that breeds like vermin, so I would expect litters of likeminded young bastards that in turn spawn their own litters of bastards. A veritable procession of bastards suckling on the teats of entitlement and ignorance.

Just seen the following quotes from Brandon about the Agger situation doing the rounds on Twitter. Doesn't sound too good.

'' The deal is too good to turn down, I won't stand in Daniels way, and wish him all the best at Man City''

''I know Williams well of course, And he has many caps for wales, A true force in world football and i'm sure he can fill Daniels boots''

    *They are not really.

I know right! I really think it will be our year. After all, we have a world class young manager who makes his teams play exactly like Barcelona and Spain; Stevie G back fit and ready to turn in a dominating season; Pepe Reina the best goalkeeper in Europe imo; the likes of Lucas, Suarez and Agger who would walk into any team in the world; "exciting" signings promised to be on the way; and smart, caring owners

    What could possiblie go wrong?

    Interesting post from Duncan Castles

Manchester City have stopped the bleeding from their well regarded scouting department. Faced with the prospect of losing five key personnel in the space of four months, Manchester City moved to prevent Rob Newman, their lead scout in Spain, and David Fernandez, who had been working on youth recruitment, from joining Liverpool.
Liverpool's American owners, Fenway Sports Group, had already poached two recruitment specialists from City as part of there plan to replace Damien Comolli, their sacked Director of Football Strategy. City resisted the departures of David Fallows and Barry Hunter, forcing both to endure periods of gardening leave before taking up their new duties at Anfield.
Last April, Mike Rigg resigned his position at the head of City's scouting system to become Technical Director at Queens Park Rangers. (http://www.thenational...) The switch from the Premier League champions-elect to a club imperilled by relegation was not without risks, yet offered Rigg the opportunity greater control over transfer strategy including the ability to negotiate transfers.
City ultimately turned to Gary Worthington, their Assistant Head of Player Recruitment, to succeed Rigg. An interesting appointment given Worthington track record at former employer Chelsea where he began his career by embroiling the club in a FA investigation for tapping up that ultimately cost them £5million for two teenagers from Leeds United who failed to make the grade. (http://www.thesundayti...
Newman and Fernandez accepted counter-offers to remain at City. Newman is to take on global scouting duties, while Fernandez takes over his position as lead scout in Spain.

A bit of a blow and might explain why things are moving slow

You know, when I compare all the negativity and pessimism on this thread over the last few weeks, to the unwarranted pre-season optimism of the last few seasons since 2009 it makes me think that perhaps it might be better than most people here expect.

yes, on top of that the lads we did recruit are sitting on their arses for the next few months

everything seems to be on ayre and rodgers at the moment which makes a mockery of FSG's claim of revamping the whole management structure with three different departments all working in unison to drive us forward

no wonder people are starting to question FSG - after the h&g debacle the last thing they should ever try to do is bs fans

i still can't get over the whole thing, one week ayre is talking about a whole new revolutionary structure being put in place, the next week they say nothing but rodgers says he wants to do it all himself

then they try to hire these scouts but the guys can't start working until next year, that on top of an almost 2 year wait for stadium news and falling way behind on the player recruitment front means they are losing a lot of goodwill fast

The good think about this off-season is there is still time to sign players, this time last year we had pretty much made all of our signings and they were incredibly depressing.

Not really, I remember people here being very optimistic when Roy was about to commence his season. Lead to that famous graph being posted.

It's not the first I'd heard of it this summer, and going by the recent indication that the club are looking for loanees from the continent, there could well be something to it. We could do with wingers too.

I think his agent has said he's available on loan only this week.
Would be a quality player for low risk and possibly sensible wages if true.

He hasn't played too much since the injury bar a couple of sub appearances for Barca as far as i know.
He was selected for the Dutch squad for the Euros

Liverpool XI against Rochdale was: Reina, GlenJo, Kelly, Agger, Robinson, Adam, Lucas, Shelvey, Eccleston, Carroll, Pacheco

It's a behind closed doors friendly organised

That is actually a well balanced looking starting line up for the most part.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭amiable

The game only lasted 50-55 minutes because a Rochdale player received a bad injury and had to be taken to hospital.
But Liverpool were winning 2-1 against Rochdale, thanks to goals from Glen Johnson and Nathan Eccleston.

Probably just due to the fact that Carra and Skrtel played 90 minutes on Thursday and Coates is not back yet, but nice to see him get a go there

Was this the game organised to help Agger's "conditioning"?

Would like to see Eccleston get a crack from the bench this season. Always felt he had something about him, but at 21 he really needs to be getting some proper game time to see if he can cut it at senior level or not.

Was listed as being organised to help the conditioning of both Agger and Carroll.

Have some memory of an arrangement to play Rochdale as part of Eccleston's loan there as well though.

Never thought he was good enough to be honest. Touch of the Daniel Sturridge about him, though with far less talent. He has not done enough on loan either for me
