Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tbh mate, that's a fairly ignorant stance/post, and I do not believe you to be an ignorant person.

It's a mere matter of respect for fellow posters to state where your getting your info from rather than just coming in and posting:

"Rodgers given transfer kitty of 2m and a packet of Mighty Munch. Will sell Gerrard for 10m and a packet of Noodles in a bid to raise funds and improve eating habits"

without providing a source or any hint of conversation/opinion behind the post.

ah calm down, matter of respect ffs - this is about football transfers

i think none of us on this forum claim to be itks thank god, as a general rule i would assume unless someone posts a link then it's their own speculation based on what they have read

i feel a long tiring debate coming on now about the validity or otherwise of posting sources and i don't really feel like that so we'll agree to differ on that one

Nah, I didn't mean to come across as being antsy or anything.

My only issue was you stating this as matter of fact, as if you were itk, without backing it up. Fair enough if you assume everything stated by anyone else is their own interpretation of things cycled in the media. I don't agree with it, nor do I think anyone else does it, but fair enough.

As for the itk bit, I think you may find Andy Carroll might be upset at that :p

Is this lad Scott from rawk worth listening to? Seems to hold some weight with others on the site. Anyway he just posted we want to sell Agger and when a bid of £20m comes in he's gone.

The trophy can be the statue of Eden Hazard Kess was building in his wardrobe out of chewing gum and lint. No need for it now.

Bellamy apparently on his way out...

Losing Agger and Bellamy, while only hypothetical, still represents our best performers from last year being linked with moves away...hardly desirable.

Allen and Dempsey, but mainly because the rumours have been so strong, and with Dempsey not being included in Fulham's pre-season squad it only adds weight to that.

Would like to think the reports on loaning a player from Real are true. Would love Sahin, but not sure how realistic that would be as surely if its made known that he is available most clubs would line up to get him. He's been strongly linked with Arsenal as well.

A winger is needed but I doubt we will go for Walcott when you consider his wage demands, maybe Tello might be an option.

As much as I would like Afellay, I get the impression that Barca want to hold onto him this season.

Tbh, there are many players I would love to see us sign, but recent weeks have led to me adapting quite a negative outlook on what our transfer business may be, so I've honestly no idea of what direction the club may take.

Selling Agger is a massive no-no for me.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,006 ✭✭✭donfers

if you look at it from a business standpoint

agger is 27, rumour has it he wants 100k a week (why not?) on his new contract - at that age it is probably the last year you'll get the peak transfer value of a player

so say we get 20 million squid plus we save ourselves a four year contract on 100 k a week, that's another 20 million, so a total of 40 million pounds saved by offloading him, a player with a dodgy injury record at his peak value and depreciating fast from next season so you can see the business case being made

however from a football point of view, it is pure madness as he is our best footballing centre-half by a distance and the fans will go nuts

i assume if they sell, they'll sign a new cb at around 10-15 million at 50-60 k a week meaning the saving is about 20 million net

That would be fine if we had a player lined up who was as good as Agger or younger with potential to be as good or better. Until that player signs for us I can see why people are worried.

I be worried about how much sense it would make from a business point of view as well tbh. Our record in the transfer market of late is overpaying for average quality.

Like you said, we would prob spend 15m of that 20m fee in replacing Agger with a vastly inferior, if more consistent player, and spend a further 10-15m on his 5 year contract all while sliding further and further away from the possibility of CL football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

God knows what Skrtel, Suarez etc must be thinking if this happens. Still sure we can probably get bags full of more cash for them and half the wage bill, yipee.

i can't see us finding a replacement anywhere near as good as Agger who will be willing to join a non CL team like us

maybe it will be carra and skrtel next season which is not good

coates ahead of carra for me if necessary

Anyone else reckon Carra had a word in Brandon's ear and told him to move Agger on so he could keep his position another few years?

    Only logical explanation.

Football aside, that is absolutely mind boggling. What did they think was gonna happen when they suddenly inflated the US economy with 250bn illegally laundered dollars?

I hope the people behind this get hung out to dry if true.

Plenty of quality players out there would be willing to join Liverpool. Do we trust our scouts to find them though?

I believe it would be entirely possible to build a team that could finish top 4 this season and challenge for the league next season, all on a very small budget.

The players are out there in the smaller leagues in Europe. They would not cost a fortune and they would kill to play for Liverpool.

We never sign these players unfortunately

"The point is that he [Sahin] is a young boy, he wants to play every match," said Mourinho, the Madrid manager. "And in Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso, with [Sami] Khedira, with Lassana [Diarra], [Esteban] Granero, [Mesut] Ozil … the situation is not easy. Real Madrid is very difficult. We have great players and, when you don't start well, it is difficult to do it.

"If he stays, he's not a problem for me, he's one more solution. We leave [the situation] in his hands. Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave, we are going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we are going to support you and try to succeed this season."

do we even have any functioning scouts?

i agree we should go for the continental market, better value, maybe sakho or my call earlier on amorebieta

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,655 ✭✭✭El Inho

Well I don't believe losing Agger is a teetotal disaster but it is truly undesirable.

I like Coates, but is he really so far along that he can start alongside Skrtel?

Is Carragher being groomed to be a Puyol style player in this tiki chicken misala system which i know nothing about?

Are we not just taking steps backwards here? Borini is hardly the exciting signing everyone wanted, though i think he may prove to be a good signing. But wheres the excitement in the signings? The unexpected gem...instead threats of losing our stars.

Apparently Man City sent the scouts due to sign for us on gardening leave which may have delayed the process a bit.

I think it amiable who posted about it yesterday or the day before.

Also with regard to Sakho, 22 and captain of one of the richest teams in the world. I wouldn't be too optimistic of our chances of signing him.

The other logical explanation - if it's true - is that he's an injury prone centre back and we're being offered more money for him than we deem him to be worth. Two summers ago, as I recall, posters on this thread were willing to take £9m for Agger because of his proneness to injury. I can see why FSG would take £20m, though I'd resist the urge myself, especially if he preferred to stay.

if we sell agger and replace him with ashley williams rodgers can go fcuk himself.

this summer's business is the most underwhelming i have experienced apart from the year Purslow/woy were in charge of transfers

I actually hadn't heard anything on it, but then again I'm not very clued in with French football.

Kess or Ade may know if he's unsettled there or if PSG are looking to move him on.

It was also reported by some of the more credible media outlets that Sakho and Ancelotti have/had a few differences.

Pretty sure that there is a video of an interview with Ancelotti from April or May floating about in which he makes a comment about how all players are easily replaced when asked a question as to why he had stopped playing Sakho and why he had taken the captain's armband from Sakho. Ancelotti said all that in a post match interview hence me thinking the video is still online somewhere. Some of Ancelotti's backroom team also made remarks of a negative nature about Sakho on tv towards the end of the season.

I would expect Sakho to be sold this window if a semi decent offer comes in for him.

I know a few teams (prem teams) who are outsourcing their scouting to specialist companies. They go off to countries and scout for a while, pick up a few names, get them looked at and if any are picked up then they get a right wad of cash. If not then they just get expenses, one of my mates does it now for one of these companies and has been to Malta, Belgium and New Zealand this year and has got a couple of players into some of the local academies in midlands teams. I know Crewe have been doing something like this on a smaller scale for quite some time, I wonder if that is something that Liverpool could consider. These guys do this for a living, have a lot more people, cost a lot less than having a bunch of guys on the books who are not doing a lot of seeing. Honestly think that this is the future for scouting out hidden gems. These guys go off to the backs of beyond (got two guys for West Brom from malta and one from NZ) they are considered very good prospects and they have been bought houses in the UK for their families. They give names, bring over videos of the best and a chief scout sorts them out and picks the ones they think will make the difference.

Is quite common on the continent, and a few of the Premiership clubs whose scouting system gets lauded by supporters actually use such companies (some of the listed "companies" are actually individual people rather than scouting teams) to do the initial scouting and then the club's own scouts get involved at a very late stage.

Think you are the first person on here that I have noticed mentioning it.

very worrying summer so far and if this sale goes ahead it will negate alot of the existing good will towards Rodgers,

I know, the lad who does it was telling me that there are a few one man bands but the bigger teams are using some more recognised companies to do the looking. They put on football camps over a couple of weeks and take it on the road, then off and around to other places and watch games, get the lads to come out and play and see what they do. I had the opportunity to talk to John Cartwright about some of that last week. Arsenal run most of their young lads through him for a look. He has a real different view on coaching and management of young talents than a lot of the big clubs and has had some real run ins with the FA but listening to him talk, he seems to see a real way forward through keeping the ball and thinks that Rogers will do well with Liverpool if he does manage to get the fans onside and have them realise that it is not guaranteed immediate success.

Of course the cost cutting is needed. What kind of deluded land are you living in to think it's not? The fact you tell us that LFC wages was in the same % as teams who never had any success in recent years and even one who were relegated just confirms how badly we need to cut our costs in terms of wages.

Not sure why you'd be worried tbh. It will be a long time before we can compete with Man City in terms of wages we can offer.

Im sorry, but you havent got a clue what you are talking about and you are unable to take in what is actually being talked about.

I went to a seminar on coaching underage footballers and saw him there. He was kind of minding his own business and nobody was paying him any attention so I took my shot. He knows what he is on about, played with and against some of the best footballers the world has ever seen including Best and Dalglish (two of those he spoke enthusiastically about). Had a good 10 minutes and then he had to head off, he was going to and scout a lad for Arsenal at a nearby game, just came by to see what is being taught to us all nowadays. I am booking on to some of his seminars coming soon though, want some more of what he is doing, will help me to make the kids I coach (and my own) better individual players before we make them better team players.
