The problem is you constantly waste transfers putting him in and out when injured. Catch him on the wrong week as captain and you can end up with a double one when he goes off after 10 mins with a pulled hammy - happened a mate of mine last year.

Nobody is sure how VdV and Siggy will work in the Spurs midfield as well. Alot of pundits seem to think there's only room there for one of them.

I'd have to agree. Pre season tends to suggest AVB will go with this 4-2-3-1 system that alot of managers are going with, which leaves VDV and Siggy to fight it out for the position behind the striker (neither of them are natural wide-men). Bale is the only sensible option for me, if you want a Spurs mid.

Yea AVB played 4-2-3-1 in each pre-season game and suggested it would be no different on Saturday vs Newcastle. So there is definitely a doubt over who will play in the #10 role, Siggy or VDV. It is possible both play though, but if so one will be deeper in the 2 and I'm guessing that will be Siggy. But Bale is definitely the safer option, till we know what's what. He is virtually guaranteed 90mins each game.

    OK
    Here is my first draft.
No clue what to do with midfield and have a lot tied up in defense but don't know who to get rid of.
I feel I need a United defender and had thought about going for DDG but I reckon he'll get rotated with Lindegaard

Anyway here goes and all suggestions welcome:

    Szczesny
    Green

    A Cole
    Vidic
    Kompany
    Ferdinand (OPR)
    Stam (wigan)

    Carzola
    Ya Ya
    McClean
    Noble
    Ireland

    Torres
    Aguero
    Pogbebnyak

You should get rid of Kompany and downgrade to another City defender.

Bale played 3216 mins last season scoring 195 points while Van de V played 2314 scoring 167 points. Van de V is the better player imo and I have him in my side but he gets injured 3 or 4 times during the year.

He will be on pens and free-kicks duties this season also, just hoping he can stay injury free.

Yes, so per mins played VDV picked up more points and he is on kicks this season and is cheaper but yet most people r going for Bale.

    I wouldnt touch Valencia myself

I love Valencia but who is going to play in the middle for Utd this year between Cleverly, Carrick, Valencia, Young, Nani, Anderson, (Flechter if hes back), Kawanga not forgetting Giggs & Scholes. hell probably get 20 games or so but is that enough. Carrick will probably get the most game time, but dosent ever seem to rack up the FF points IMO

good point but Spurs seem to only have one forward and may push VDV up.

Actually thinking about it now - its very hard to beat the Toon in Toon Park so probably best not to have any Spurs players in GM1

Is it between Young, Nani, Valenica and Kag for 2 or 3 spots?

I reckon Kag will start the 1st few games, thats what Fergie usually does with new players to make them feel part of the team, and then he will go into the melting pot with the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

If VDV wasn't so injury prone I'd have him in my team. He has already been injured in the pre-season and I reckon it'd only a matter of weeks before he's injured again. They are annoying injuries as well. Ones that keep him out for one game in every 3/4. Not worth the stress imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,604 ✭✭✭lassykk

What do people think of this team?

Not sure about Hangeland and Clichy... Will Fulham go clean often enough and will Clichy start often enough... Don't have even £0.5m to upgrade him to Lescott.

another draft. will go cole > rafael which will leave me with the 2mil needed if i want to get rooney in. have mata in for the dgw also so he will most likely change for the on form midfielder (9.5 will leave me with a lot of choices)

2 keepers rotate perfectly, same as cueller and coloccini + ireland and noble

possible problems: cazorla not to start the first game as he is away with spain, although not sure if he will get any game time so will have to see if wenger gives anything away. also the city defender problem and begos rotation risk

thoughts on lampard over mata for the dgw?

Happy with this team but what do people think?

Starting players in bold for this week:

    GK: Howard, Green
DF: Clichy, Enrique, Hangeland, Cuellar, Figueroa
MF: Dembele, N'Zogbia, Guthrie, Nani, Britton
    FW: Aguero, Torres(c), Rooney

Interesting line-up, very much going against the grain with 3 big hitters up front and a relatively weak midfield - could be the way to go though.

    Hi all,

Bit of a lurker in here but I'm a long time player of FF at this stage.

Looking for some opinions on my first draft below. I generally pump most of the money into midfield and strikers and cheap out on defence, with 2 cheap, good value goalkeepers that I can rotate.

General formation is 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 depending on the gameweek.

Not that I'm one to talk but you've got a very weak midfield.
I have too. Going to have to get rid of one of my big defenders in order to strengthen my midfield but don't know who to get rid of.

Play Graham week 1 - yeah they are away but its to QPR. also Barnett to tierney. Barnett wont play Bennet will tho.

Dempsey likely wont play week 1 so spend that money more wisely.

Thanks, opinions on Nani instead of Dempsey?

I want some Utd coverage ideally but their rotation is annoying.

I'd work The Pog into your starting 11. It's pointless having him and not starting him.

Myself and my friends are doing a No-Transfers league. So you pick your team at the beginning of the season along with your two captains and then you can't make any alterations for the rest of the season. We've also nominated 4 subs who are unlikely to feature who we're all going to pick so that it's the bare starting 11. Anyway here's my team, all thoughts and opinions gratefully received.

Adam won't be starting. Silva looks like he won't make GW1 and I think you will struggle without a 'big hitter' up front.

I don't fancy Evra at all, too expensive. If you want a Man U defender at that price I'd go with Vidic, but I'd look at cheaper options on other teams.

Right, brought in RVP for Rooney.
If transfer of RVP falls through then it's RVP out and Rooney in.
    Thoughts on this team?

This, more than likely will be my starting eleven for saturday.

United's midfield and strike force will probably line up like this when everyone's fit, unless I've forgotten someone obvious:

    Carrick/Scholes

    Kagawa

    Valencia
    Nani/Young

    Rooney

    Van Persie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,962 ✭✭✭Hogey007

delighted as a united fan to get RVP but it's really threw a spanner in the works of my FF team.

Provisionally I've dropped Kagawa for Noble to (+3.5)
dropped Zabaleta for Cuellar (+1.5) to fund this next bit

    Podolski in for Defoe (-1.0)
and 4.0 left in the bank to transfer in RVP or Rooney for Torres or Tevez after gw 1.

That's what I've spent the last hour coming up with, will probably change it another 5 or 6 times before saturday.

Hope Im almost done. Any advice appreciated.

    De Gea

    Evra Lescott Shawcross

    Yaya Larsson Mc Carthy Hazard

    Tevez Torres Pogrebnyak

    Subs: Jaaskelainen Coloccini Noble Williams

With enough to buy Van Persie in the GW2.

Or some variation with midfield / defence from this lot, which I dont have the brain power to concentrate on now!
