    Hi,

I'm going to start working in Intel (near Leixlip) and I was wondering if any other Intel worker could advise me about where to live. My first thought was Dublin. I know a friend there, and I thought that it would be easier as I'm a foreigner. I'm not sure if it's a good idea because of the distance. Is there anybody who works at Intel and lives in Dublin?

I won't have car, so my options are taking the bus or train.

    Thanks!

Maybe at the start u are better to be close to place of work esp as u are new to area and job so u can build up a network of friends /work colleagues u can meet up after work instead of having to rush off for the last bus etc to Dublin.
It could be lonely doing that . When u get a feel of the surroundings then u can decide u want to move further away . Good luck in new job.

Dublin is only 40 mins away by train from Maynooth.

Maynooth is a nicer place to live in my opinion (I've lived in both)

I think Lucan would be good option to stay longer ;)

Maynooth to start off with for 6-9 months and then take it from there ;-)

    I would pick Maynooth too:)
Intel is only a cycle away and you have everything you need on your door step.
There is also a nice atmosphere in the town.
I have lived in Maynooth,Leixlip (years ago) and a lot of parts of Dublin.

There are a few estates full of students so be aware of this and whether it is whatnyoumwant or not when looking.

Was going to say that too. Lots of students in Maynooth.

There are a couple of areas beside Intel in Leixlip itself that are a short walk from the factory that I'd recommend you start in.

EDIT: as you don't drive public transport is going to be important to you and it's a lot better from Dublin city centre to Leixlip, especially at weekends (Nitelink) if you are socialising. And as it's 9km closer to the city centre it's a bit cheaper/quicker than Maynooth aswell.

go with Maynooth. get your probation period out of the way without any possabilities of being late/ missing work due to travel issues. leixlip can be a tough destinaion if there are heavy snows or flooding in wintertime, best to be close for the first year. Once in Intel, you will find that there will be many many people who will be able to advise on best location to live, best travel routes, car sharing and all that stuff. In my opinion, the only consideration for the first 9-12 months, should be a location that best suits the job.

consider Celbridge too, its far nicer than Maynooth and leixlip:D

Bit confused.....Intel is in Leixlip, and is closer to the centre of Leixlip than Maynooth. So how would it be easier to get from Maynooth to Intel than from Leixlip to Intel?

However I do concur with the view that you are better off being close to Intel at the start, will make life easier and you can then decide on other locations in the future if you want.

I would too, and would recommend living within walking distance at first.

Also bear in mind there is no direct public transport between Celbridge and Leixlip. Hard to believe, but it's true.

When I said Liexlip can be a tough destination, I meant if traveling from the city centre. I thought he had settled on Maynooth. Maynooth to Intel is a doddle by bike.

Joe, there is actually public transport from Celbridge to Liexlip - you should not be putting people off like that. I am surprised someone of your experience does not know this.Let me explain.

just get the train from Hazlehatch to Heuston, Luas to Connolly and Connolly to Liexlip, simple really.;)
