Rob Thomas is developing a contemporary take on Hugo's novel "Les Miserables," which has been given a script commitment with penalty by Fox.
The one-hour drama project, which Thomas is executive producing with Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge, is billed as a primetime soap about a brilliant lawyer running a legal exoneration program who fights to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction many years before. He must navigate high society, continue his mission of saving innocent people, and manage his tumultuous family and romantic life — all while staying one step ahead of a ruthless U.S. Attorney who refuses to let the ghosts of the past die.
Graham Norris is writing the project and serving as supervising producer.

The film was great and I absolutely love it. I can't see how this would work, though with a good writing team and a solid idea it might work.
Terra Nova writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are adapting 12 Monkeys for cable television.

    Never mind.

Elizabeth Hurley is set for regal duty with a starring role in the hourlong E! pilot The Royals, from Lionsgate TV and the One Tree Hill team of creator Mark Schwahn and producers Brian Robbins & Joe Davola. Written by Schwahn, The Royals is a contemporary drama about a fictional royal family informed by the regal opulence of the British monarchy and framed by Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Part fairy tale, part cautionary tale, the show is described as a tale of men and women corrupted by power, wealth and desire. I’ve learned that Hurley will play the sexy, devious and conflicted Queen Helena, who struggles to cope with the death of her oldest son and the crisis of confidence this creates with her husband, King Simon, while working to deter the growing relationship between her middle son, now the heir apparent, and his American girlfriend - Source Deadline

John TUcker Must Die?.....no, Dorothy Must Die!

    http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/cw-wizard-of-oz-drama-produced-by-heroes-creator-tim-kring/

The summer of Wizard Of Oz continues with another sale of a high-profile Oz-themed drama project. I’ve learned that the CW is in negotiations for Dorothy Must Die, a drama from the Heroes trio of creator/exec producer Tim Kring and exec producers Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster. Written by Armus and Foster with Kring supervising, I hear the project is based on the upcoming young adult novel Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. It is a revisionist take on the classic tale set in present day, 80 years after Dorothy Gale supposedly came home. In reality, the magically-ever-youthful Dorothy has stayed in Oz, presiding over a now fascist fairyland with her perfectly manicured iron fist and the help of her henchmen – the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. But when another young woman from Kansas is swept up in a tornado and magically dropped into this war-torn Oz, our hero discovers a revolutionary underground of witches and enchanted beings only to learn that she is destined to lead their people in the fight to reclaim Oz from a power-hungry Dorothy’s ruthless clutches. The book will be published by HarperTeen next April, with digital prequel novella, No Place Like Oz, available now. The property originated at James Frey’s book-packaging company Full Fathom Five, with him and Todd Cohen, President of Film and Television, exec producing alongside Armus, Foster and Kring.

Katherine Heigl back on TV but not Grey's Anatomy :(

NBC has acquired rights to a potential CIA-themed drama series produced by
and starring the Grey’s Anatomy alum, TVLine has learned.

The untitled project, to be written by Alexi Hawley (The Following),
finds Heigl playing a key CIA analyst whose
job it is to debrief and strategize with the president on the most pressing
global and national matters. She balances this incredibly high stakes job
and trusted relationship with her complicated personal life

FX are working on an American Psycho series.
“In the new drama series, iconic serial killer Patrick Bateman, now in his mid-50’s but as outrageous and lethal as ever, takes on a protégé in a sadistic social experiment who will become every bit his equal — a next generation American Psycho.”
The project will be written by Stefan Jaworski and co-produced by Lionsgate and FX. Allison Shearmu, Jaworski and Ed Pressman are executive producers.

Sounds like a cross between The Following and Hannibal.

AMC is greenlighting a spin-off series that will feature Breaking Bad character Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk. While the network and studio, Sony Pictures Television, announced today only that they have reached a licensing agreement for the show, it’s expected to receive a series order from AMC once contracts are finalized.
The spin-off is designed as a one-hour prequel that will chronicle the exploits of the show’s charmingly disreputable lawyer, whose famous slogan is “Better Call Saul,” before he crossed paths with meth lord Walter White (Bryan Cranston). Breaking Bad creator/executive producer Vince Gilligan has been developing the spinoff concept with coexecutive producer Peter Gould Source

Is it me , or are FX attempting to make TV Shows out of every cult film there every was - Fargo, 12 Monkeys, now American Psycho?

Penny Dreadful has got picked up by Sky Atlantic already, despite the fact it hasn't even began filming yet (which is said to begin in October in Dublin). Is not overly surprising it got picked up this early though, it's got a high name cast and an interesting plot -Josh Harnett in the lead with Timothy Dalton and Billie Piper, and Sam Mendes Exec Producing. Set in Victorian London, it will follow iconic horror characters such as Dracula, Frankenstien, etc.

AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead will have a spin-off companion series in 2015.
The hit zombie drama, which starring Andrew Lincoln, follows the story of a group of survivors struggling to stay alive in a post-apocalyptic world infested by flesh-eating zombies.
Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will exec produce the spinoff show.
"Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer," said Charlie Collier, AMC's president and general manager.
"We look forward to working with [producers] Robert [Kirmann], Gale [Anne Hurd] and Dave [Alpert] again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters.
"It's a big world and we can't wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."
Kirkman added: "After ten years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of the Walking Dead universe.
"The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

with the arrival if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D this week, Marvel and ABC have announced that they are working on a Peggy Carter series with an estimated 2015 staring date, it seems its early days yet and there is no word on if Hayley Atwell will come onboard as Peggy Carter or not yet,

for those who dont know, or cant remember Peggy Carter was in the Captain America film as a love interest, she has her own Marvel One Shot film which was released on the Iron Man 3 DVD, the series will be set in the 40s set after Captain America, and will follow Carter as she become a spy for probably the early days of the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D

apparently its one of a few options their looking at, but this sounds like it could be a good show,

The CW is taking on a controversial subject with ZE, a drama project centering on a transgender teenager. Written by Brooklyn-based writer-playwright Kyle Jarrow and executive produced by Michael London (Milk), ZE is described as a raw, quirky family drama about a FTM (female-to-male) teen and his family. A personal choice takes on controversial public significance when a Texas teenager announces she is transgender and will be living life as a boy. As his dysfunctional family spirals into identity crises of their own, he discovers that he might be the most well-adjusted of them all. CBS TV Studios is producing ZE, whose title represents a non-gender-specific reference (like he or she). While there have been a handful of transgender characters on broadcast series, most notably one played by Rebecca Romijn on ABC’s Ugly Betty, this is the first time a transgender person would be the lead of a primetime show. Jarrow is used to tackling sensitive topics; he won an Obie Award at age 24 for his Off-Broadway hit A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant.

He penned the 2010 Sundance film Armless and the upcoming indie Saint Janet and recently developed Inside, a cop drama for FX with Philip Seymour Hoffman’s production company, and Nowhere, an adventure drama for MTV. Jarrow, repped by CAA and Madhouse Entertainment, also leads the rock band Sky-Pony. Upcoming projects include the plays Ana and the American Dream (a commission by Lincoln Center Theater) and Noir (a new musical written with Tony winner Duncan Sheik). WME-repped London executive produces the Amazon comedy series Betas.

Vince Gilligan has teamed with David Shore for Battle Creek, which has closed at CBS with a series production order for the 2014-15 season. The drama project, which I hear has a 13-episode commitment, was originally created by Gilligan a decade ago. It comes from Sony TV, which produced Breaking Bad and has an overall deal with Shore. Sony will co-produce with CBS TV Studios, with Gilligan, Shore and Breaking Bad EP Mark Johnson executive producing. Shore will serve as showrunner, with Gilligan interested in directing. It’s been a very strong last few days for Sony TV, which scored a best drama series win on Sunday for Breaking Bad, a strong opening for its new NBC series The Blacklist on Monday, followed by the series order for Battle Creek today.
Battle Creek centers on two detectives with very different world views who are teamed up. They must answer the question: is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Michigan in the face of a complete lack of resources; or is the exact opposite true – it takes naïveté, trust and a boatload of resources? The deal brings the project back to CBS where Gilligan, pre-Breaking Bad, developed it in 2002. While the script didn’t go forward at the time, I hear it stayed on entertainment president Nina Tassler’s radar as she considered revisiting it multiple times. Meanwhile, after Breaking Bad wrapped production on its final season, Sony TV and ICM Partners paired their marquee drama creators Gilligan and Shore. (Gilligan’s overall deal at Sony TV is up but there have been discussions for a new one.). Gilligan and Shore took a pass at the original script and the project was taken to CBS.

Fox has given a series order to Mulaney, a multi-camera comedy from Saturday Night Live scribe John Mulaney and his SNL bossman Lorne Michaels. Based loosely on Mulaney’s life, the project — on which NBC passed during pilot season — follows an aspiring comedian (Mulaney) living under the influence of his boss (played by Martin Short, another SNL alum), roommates and neighbours Source

NBC is developing a sequel to Remington Steele. It will be developed as a half-hour comedy.
the reboot follows Olivia Holt, the daughter of Remington Steele and Laura Holt, as she reopens the once-world-famous Remington Steele Detective Agency — only to fall into the same hilarious, action-packed, romantic entanglements of her parents.

    Another remake, nothing original!

I saw something on Pierce Brosnan on the Everything or Nothing Bond story as he had a 30 day cooling off period from Remington Steele before getting the option of picking it up again, he was almost James Bond, had it all set up promo pics etc & then taken away from him on the 30th day, As he was still under contract he done the next series but was still visibly shocked at it at being so near being the next James Bond, or should i say shaken & stirred :D

Susan Sarandon is set to star in Growing Ivy, a single-camera comedy pilot for NBC, conceived, co-written by and co-starring her daughter Eva Amurri Martino, and executive-produced by Parks and Recreation favorite Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (the latter who will co-write with Martino).
Growing Ivy finds Martino in the lead role of Ivy Davis, a Type A career woman with a flailing personal life who invites her freewheeling, eccentric mom Franckie (Sarandon) to move in with her and work on their relationship. Her goal? To experience some of the stability she lacked in her childhood, restore balance in her everyday existence and potentially find love.
