Hi could you genius help me with a build.

1. What is your budget? [€700

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming] (battlefield 3, skyrim)

well if you can find out if your old hdd's are sata or ide it could save you can save €70 on one if it's sata, anyways came up with two build here both basicly the same but one of them is abit of a cool concept as it has a nicer case and is alot smaller:

Reasonable gaming CPU - dual core but runs 4 threads. SSD should speed up the feel of the machine somewhat.

I've made a couple of compromises to get this machine in on budget - I would look at spending a bit more on a case that you like.

I would also look at spending an extra tenner on a Z77 motherboard incase you get your hands on a i5K processor down the line. The Z75 will over clock but everyone had Z77s.

I would also spend a few extra quid (€20) on a 2GB version of the 7850.

I know you don't want to try over clocking, but playing with some sliders in the control centre for ATI cards can yield some good results. This one has the cooling to support that. 2GB will be useful in the future as we move beyond 1080p

Great builds guys.

Questions:

I don't think I'll bother with a ssd as a Sata 3 hard drive will be enough I think. Also I would prefer to use a i5 chip like the i5 2500 as I hear it's very good. Will this change the cost of the build much?. Also regarding the case I will take a cheap but good one. I don't care for a flashy looking one as it be in the corner of the room

2500K has been replaced by the 3570K - some people still prefer the 2500K as it run cooler. If you're not over clocking just pull the SSD out of my build and drop in a 3570K Box as thats the one with the basic Intel cooler.

The K series are only really designed for over clockers though - you could go for a cheaper i5 CPU.

SSDs are odd - use a PC with one you'll never go back. If you don't then it probably wont bother you too much.

Ok, is there much difference between i5 2500 and i5 3570 apart from small price difference of 20 euro which could be spent else where?

Faster per clock so if you're not over clocking its an advantage. e.g. at stock its a fater CPU.

VitruMVP will give your frame rates a little bump and will be a slightly bigger bump with a 3570K

The rest (PCI-e 3.0) wont really make any odds.

i personally prefer 2500k and recommend it over ivy bridge. both are indentical in performance when overclocked. 2500k is tested by time and cheaper too.

What would a better build be yours or the changed one(with i5 3670) in terms of best performance?

I'm not sure of graphics cards but how good is the one you put in.

The 7850 is pretty low range. If you can sink €300 - 400 on it then look at the 7950 or ideally the GTX670.

Many here would disagree but I would go with an i3 and a GTX670 over and i5 and a 7850.

Ok I can't afford top of the range but would a gtx 560 be able to play most games at high settings with good fps?

The GTX670 is the fist card form nVidia I'd consider tbh. For that price go with the AMD6870.

A 6870 would be a much better choice than a GTX 560. Cheaper too!

When looking at a €700 budget you need to be pretty sure what you want it for. If its gaming you have to make sacrifices on CPU power for GPU imo.

Ok so on your original build if I lose the ssd and add a i5 would that would keep the price the same but would it be better as ive never had a pc with ssd. Also the 7850 is better than the gtx 560. But you said adding €20 get 2gb one but would that increase the performance all that much?

Okay - on this one you get an i5-2500K and a Asrock Z77 this is the probably the most popular platform. As it stands you would need to invest in a better cooler before doing any real over clocking - but its there as a future option. If you think you might do that I would spend a bit extra when you order and get the 400R case.

1GB v 2GB cards really depends on what resolution you are running at. 2GB will take you beyond 1080p 1GB should be fine for everything up to that. (1080p = 1920 x 1080). Frame Buffer (memory on the card) doesn't really effect performance as such. You just know if you run out of it as your frame rates will end up in the toilet.

Ironically the graphics card in this is overclocked but its done buy the factory so you don't need to worry about it. Over clocked is actually a bit of a misnomer as AMD just make the chips its up to XFX what they do with them tbh. This is probably the best video card you'll get at your price point if you want an i5. It's still a 7850 just a particularly fast version.

This should run most games on high, but not ultra, settings at okay (40+) FPS.

Your are most welcome - make sure to check back the lads here really know how to build machines and may disagree with some of the specs.

Make sure you check out the cases - defo worth investing a few extra quid not in the PSU and Case now rather than doing it later. Also think you have the right idea with having something you can give a bit of a boost to later! The extra bit of cash and time spent learning will save you hundreds later on.
