Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

well the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so has anyone ever got any great beach shots, possible portrait, around Portmarnock?

Going here, http://golden-hour.com/ , the sun rises at 5.23 in Portmarnock, but do u get stunning shots of the sun rising over the sea? Samples welcome if you've ever tried it.

    Thanks. ;)

In my experience it is worth it. But unfortunately it does mean you could be getting up at an ungodly hour and have nothing to show for it. Unless it's winter, then you freeze so it's a toughie either way. But it is worth it and you can get some gorgeous colours happening.

This is a simple one, I blocked out the sun itself to intensify the colours of the sky.

The important thing is to find a good foreground like rocks, rippled sand or still water on the beach. Check out the area beforehand to decide on the best vantage point and check on the weather before leaving the house.

fantastic links, thanks guys. But just wondering if the sun rises directly over the sea at the beach in portmarnock, any shots of that? I'd be using flash on my friend, maybe also a ND grad as well, I'll experiment.

Have you tried TPE (the Photographer's Ephemeris), it's free to download and it shows the exact spot the sun will hit at a particular time (allow for height/mountains in the way).

This is great tool, I use it quite a bit. It's also available on iPhone or iPad and is well worth the few quid to use on the go.

Thankfully I live over on the other side of the country and can avail of the golden hours on the beach at a far more respectable time :pac:

You may want to experiment with filters too, they improve the effect during sunrise/sunset. The ones I experiment with are Cokin graduated tobacco, gold, graduated ND.
This one with Cokin Gold, also a flash(shoot through big umbrella) and a lot of photoshop :-)
