Dead Sea Urchins

I'm just back a holiday in the North West and I noticed there were an awful lot of dead sea urchins washed up on some Donegal beaches. Other years I'd see a few but there were literally hundreds of them washed up along the beach. Does anyone know if there's some sort of issue with them at the moment, ie. disease, parasite?…
