Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Soundproofing Advice for a small room

    Morning all,

Looking for a bit of advice. I have a small studio 8x10 which I intend to use for recording guitars & vox mainly, no percussion. And I'm wondering what's the best way of soundproofing, do I need to go the route of making bass traps etc? I will be producing/mixing music with drums in it, so for the purposes of playback is it better to have a dead room?

The room is 8x10 with a pointed roof so the highest point would be 12ft and the lowest 8.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Fusion

In acoustical terms your room is very small.

That probably only leaves one option - completely deadening it .

When you say 'soundproofing' do you mean isolation i.e. blocking out sound - or 'treatment' shaping the sound of the room ?

How 'good' do you need to get it ?

(that last question is directly connected to how much it will cost !)

    Hey Paul,

I'd be more talking about treatment then noise isolation, it's not near anything so there will be no noise outside disturbing recording. I'd be looking for as close to professional quality for the guitars as I can get.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You have a lot of options there Fusion build your own bass traps. 2D/3D diffusors or you could just pick up a room kit. You will need to measure your room for freq response there are plenty of tutorials online.

Your room is prob too small for diffusors anyhoo. Would hanging heavy curtains help??
