Fair play, chief. Great total with plenty more there.

    Thanks!

Thanks! Yes, finally. I don't think my sanity could have dealt with not getting the 200 total yesterday :D

I'll have to get my thinking cap on for a new log title.

In pursuit of a 210kg total doesn't have the same ring to it and I don't think you'll be waiting very long to hit it either. Nice lifting Dylan!

    Today:

    Snatch:

    60kg 1 x 3
    62kg 1 x 3
    65kg 2 x 3
    67kg 2 x 3

    Clean:

    w/ pause above knee

    82kg 5 x 3

    Snatch Pull:

    82kg 4 x 4

    Squat:

    125kg 4 x 3

Back after a week off. Have 4 weeks and a taper until Leinsters. I'm running the same program again with some modifications to the scheduling.

I have added Thursday's cleans to my Monday session and added Thursday's snatches to Wednesday's session. Previously, Monday was just snatching and Wednesday was just clean and jerk. I prefer to to both lifts on the same day and I feel I perform better in the c+j if I snatch before hand.

Saturday day is still both lifts for heavy singles.

Tuesday is still used for powers and I now have Thursday completely free. I may also do powers on Thursday If I feel like it.

    Today:

    60kg 1 x 2
    65kg 1 x 2
    70kg 1 x 2
    75kg 3 x 1

    Clean and Jerk:

    85kg 1 x 2+2
    90kg 1 x 2+1
    95kg 1 x 1
    100kg 3 x 1

    120kg x 1
    112kg 1 x 2

    Deadlift:

    From block just below knee.

    115kg 3 x 5

Replacing the RDL's with these. I can go quite deep with the RDL which seems to aggravate my old back injury so hopefully this will prevent that. Not having to do an eccentric will probably help as well. I had a couple of days of discomfort after the snatch grip RDL's on Wednesday so they will probably take a hop.

    Snatch Grip Press:

    30kg 3 x 10

I've been working on my ankles a lot over the last few days and it really seems to have improved my bottom position.

    Today:

    Leinster Open

    BW: 89.4kg

    Snatch:

    80kg o
    83kg x
    85kg o +2kg comp PB

    Clean and Jerk:

    107kg o
    113kg o
    120kg o +3kg comp PB

    Total: 205kg

Very happy with that. Snatches weren't great so I was happy to finish on 85kg. Clean and jerk was good, initially I wasn't feeling great and dropped my opener from 110 to 107. Got 107 and then 113 on my second attempt. Bumped up to 120kg for the third and managed to get it after taking it for a bit of a walk. 120 was my year end goal so to get it in July is great stuff altogether.

A massive thanks to everyone who set up the comp and a very special thanks to the coach from Miltown Malbay who took me under his guidance without me even having to ask and was a massive help!

Not sure what I'll do next, I'll figure something out during the week. In the mean time I think it's time to have a rest.

You call that 'a bit of a walk'?

If I ever get a dog, I wouldn't ask you to take it for a walk! :

Great stuff...made it look pretty easy!

Not a great session, the heat is killing me. Still feeling the effects of Monday's as well.

Finally got around to getting the log title changed (thanks Edwardius!). It's the russian term for weightlifting.

    RDL:

    100kg 4 x 4

    BTN Snatch Press:

    35kg 4 x 4

Taking while to get back up to speed. Jerks were god awful and my pulling strength has evaporated. Squats feel easy though so I've got that going for me. Will probably take it easy next week and start a new program on the 11th.

    137kg 1 x 3

Snatches were just aout ok. Clean and pulls were terrible, thinks it was a timing issue. Felt like I was missing the second pull. Squats were heavy. I hate Wednesdays. This is the most emo I've been in a while. I didn't get much sleep last night so hopefully it's all down to that.

    Today:

    Hang Power Snatch:

    55kg 1 x 3
    60kg 2 x 3
    62kg 2 x 3

First time working from the hng in ages so they weren't great.

    Clean and Jerk:

    75kg 1 x 3+1
    87kg 1 x 3+1
    97kg 3 x 2+1

    Squat:

    100kg x 4
    115kg x 4
    130kg 3 x 3

Still getting back into the swing of things. Managed to do some BTN Sotts presses at the end with a collar width grip. Will hopefully be able to work the grip in over time. I also want to be able to do a proper Sotts press from the front rack so I am going to start working them in as well.

Picked up the white Adipowers today. I actually got a red pair a few weeks ago put they were a tad small. I was hoping they would eventually break in and stretch but no joy. I managed to sell them on today and went up to D8fitness and got these half a size bigger, they fit like a glove. I'm gonna be sad when they eventually get dirty though.

    14th August:

    Snatch:

    55kg 1 x 2
    65kg 1 x 2
    72kg 3 x 2

    Clean and Jerk:

    75kg 1 x 2+1
    87kg 1 x 2+1
    100kg 3 x 2+1

    Snatch Pull:

    72kg 4 x 3

    Front Squat:

    82kg 1 x 3
    97kg 1 x 3
    102kg 1 x 3
    110kg 2 x 3

    Rack Jerks:

These were meant to be push press but I need to do more work on my jerk.

    75kg 1 x 4
    82kg 1 x 4
    88kg 1 x 3
    70kg 1 x 3

    BTN Snatch Press

    35kg 4 x 4

Everything was fine apart from the jerks. New shoes giving me a bit of trouble in regards to timing. I think this may be down to the thinner sole on the adipower compared to the PP. I think this is causing the rear foot to hit a little late and it's throwing me off. I should adjust in a few sessions hopefully.

Quick question: do you do all your own programming?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,468 ✭✭✭DylanJM

Not really. At the minute I am doing a program from Bob Takano's book. It's a pretty good book (not perfect though) based on information published by Russian coaches in the 80's, primarily Medvedev. Most of the info in the book is taken from these texts.

Before that I was using a basic program from the Catalyst Athletics website. I sometimes make changes based on stuff I think I need to work on but usually stick to how the program is written.

I am currently trying to learn as much as I can in regards to programming but there is an awful lot of material out there and sifting through it is taking quite some time. There are also different schools of thought which further complicates matters. Every coach will say their method is the best but at the end of the day I suppose you just have to find what work best for you or the people you want to coach.

I was just curious as to how you structured your training because it seems to be going pretty well!
