Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Controlling 'National' as a protected term

I just came across these guys.

"The National Dance Company of Ireland" - http://www.rhythmofthedance.com/shop.php

I can't see that they have any State sanction. It would also appear they are using the harp without Ministerial approval
Any person who wishes to obtain registration of a trade mark containing a State emblem (harp, shamrock) or to use a State emblem in connection with any business must first obtain consent from the Minister. The Minister is also empowered to take lawful steps against any person outside the State in the event of misuse of trade marks that would falsely indicate that the goods on which the trade mark is used were of Irish origin.

After we now have a "National" Dance Company and "National" Leprechaun Museum, is it time to really crack down on National this and that?

The UK seem to do a better job of preventing the misappropriation of State sanction.
    Company Names
The use in Company names of words such as King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Duke,
Duchess, His/Her Majesty, Windsor and Royal is prohibited by the Company and
    Business Names Regulations 2009.

I was getting worked up about Syria and the possibility of chemical weapons being deployed. Thanks for giving me some focus.
I think you're not onto much there. Save it for when there is literally nothing else left in your life to care about and then maybe write a letter to somebody.

Oh I'm sorry. I forgot a National preoccupation of Ireland was telling people not to "get so worked up". Along with "not giving a feck". Thanks for stopping by.

Maybe we should open a National Museum of Not Giving a Feck with the exhibition of people who died an early death from worrying about it.

Try not to get so worked up about me giving a small **** (Jesus is that all you have to worry about!!!) Get a life! Calm down! Good God man, save it for something important - think of the internet you are wasting..blah blah,

There was me what, making a documentary on National Television? No, posting on After Hours where the hottest topic of the day is Rashers or Sausages.

Wow. Look. Ireland is in a gigantic mess. The country has huge problems. You're flipping over something that is not a big deal. It doesn't even make it on the list.
By all means write a few letters and let us know what you hear, maybe do that instead of ranting on the net.

OP aren't you the same person who got unbelievably upset by an o2 banner on o connel st in dublin?

I raised a compliant with O2 posted on boards - does that qualify as "unbelievably upset". Seems to be some link between civic responsibility and "getting worked up" on boards. Why is that?

I see you posted a link about child porn a couple of months back, should I describe it as you "getting all hysterical" or "showing people where to get kiddie porn"?

    Ah, right.

/runs off to fix Ireland's economic woes.

    Posts thread on bankers.

If you look at the word 'National' for long enough, it starts to loose all meaning.

National Irish Bank, was another one. You should have mentioned them in the OP, that would have got a few people riled up.

What have you done in line with the idea of civic responsibility in the real world? I made a suggestion that you write a few letters. That's just about the best start that can be made with something like this.
I didn't suggest you fix the economy, did I? But if you can then I think it's probably your civic responsibility to do so...
You don't need to post a thread about bankers but you could probably contribute to one if you felt like it.

Thank you, oddly enough had it crossed my mind. :( Maybe I'm just "flipping out" too much, bit upset to write right now. Ink is starting to blur.

Why did you mention it then, why don't I post about xyz? I didn't post about xyz - I posted about a bunch of chancers touring the world and posing as the National Dance Company like they have the seal of approval from the nation. Forgive me for mentioning it.

only if I can be the national kiddie porn finder

only if I can be the national kiddie porn finder

    That's National, show some respect.

Can I form the National Association of Grumpy Old Men them - I'm sure I can make GNOME work if I sit down with a cup of tea.

Seriuously, why is it, when you raise any issue on boards you get the same three responses.

    1. Why are bothered? Haven't you anything better to do.
    2. What's it to you, (in other words what's your angle)
    3. What about X that's far more important than Y

    Gets old tbh.

Fair play with that link. I wasn't inferring that you should post about a different subject (*sigh*) but rather that you were a bit over the top about this one when such a reaction might be better suited to a larger or more pressing matter.
You're clearly a bit passionate about the whole thing. No offense meant.

Over the top? Posting on AH? I thought it might be fun to discuss it. Sorry if I offended in some way.
