Depends on the game and what you're watching it on and how sensitive you are. I can chug along on 20fps others would throw the PC out the window at anything less than 100.

Cheapest Build in the universe sorta

    Item|Price
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€40.99
    Intel Celeron G530 Box, LGA1155|€37.56
    Toshiba DT01ACA Series 500GB, SATA 6Gb/s|€59.69
    4GB-Kit G-Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€20.39
    Club 3D Radeon HD 7750, 1024MB GDDR5, AMD Radeon HD 7750, PCI- Express|€97.69
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.57
    ASRock H77M, Sockel 1155,mATX|€71.38
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€378.26

You'd need to overclock the GPU (easy done!) and install windows off a USB stick as you've no DVD Drive.

Might just about outperform an XBOX360

Probably the first thing that would be considered a gaming build:

    Item|Price
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€40.99
    Toshiba DT01ACA Series 500GB, SATA 6Gb/s|€59.69
    4GB-Kit G-Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€20.39
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.57
    ASRock H77M, Sockel 1155,mATX|€71.38
    Intel Core i3-2120 Box, LGA1155|€111.64
    Powercolor HD6870 1024MB Dual-DVI/HD1M2I5|€138.92
    LG GH22NS50/70/90 bare schwarz|€17.78
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€511.35

Not bad little gaming machine if you don't need high settings.

What's reasonable to you in terms of gaming performance? What games do you play?

Nothing too crazy games like total war etc. Stragery and military games . Dont really want to build a pc though

Total war is a toughy on Hardware I'm afraid. Have a look at this link if you want a prebuilt:

ino was looking at dell inspiron 620 i5. only 550 and can handle total war np. Kinda looking for a pc 1 level above that

For the love of god don't buy a dell! Every time someone buys a dell a Kitten dies!

Buy the parts and ask one of the lads here to build it for you or buy from a boutique builder in the UK like Chillblast.

Those are the 1st Gen i5s we're on the 3rd (Ivy Bridge) at the moment with some 2nd gen (Sandybridge) CPUs still floating about

Graphics card on that will struggle with games but it looks like it might be upgradeable at least.

Hang on - I didn't think there was a desktop, dual core, i5 - hopefully a misprint there.

Hmmmm it will play the lastest total war. Most of the new up coming high spec games i will be using my ps3 on. My current pc is 2.4 g AMD phenom 9750 quad core processor with 4gb of ram and 1 tb memory. the card is Nivdia Ge Force GT130.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,224 ✭✭✭Procrastastudy

Nope thats not gonna play Shogun II very well the 6450 isn't really up to the task.

I know nothing about AMD based systems sorry man - I'd hazard a guess that you'd be better off firing a new GPU into you're current machine rather than trying to buy something from Argos.

I'll do up a build tomorrow that will blow the Argos build out of the water, would you be ok with just having to install Windows? Only takes a few minutes.

    Youtube for building PC tutorials

You'd build a beast for €750 and throw out the PS3
