I tried an older channel list on mine after the upgrade and the EPG doesn't appear.

Apart from the DTT chans, there is no EPG on these, only now and next on Sat......

I know, but I am getting no EPG entries at all for any channel, Irish or Satellite after upgrade and importing the channels from the previous version. I went back to my backup dump and it is all OK again.

That is because you cannot use previous channel lists (Dumpfiles) as the channel lists also cross contaminate the new firmware with some of the old.

It clearly states this in the text file. I have warned before about using channel lists from previous firmware versions as it undoes what the new firmware is trying to do - cleanse the box to make the running of it smoother. Ferguson have now confirmed by earlier suspicions.

If you do not use the "entertainment" functionaility - youtube, youporn etc, well then you dont need to upgrade, although I note that a user in this thread has commented on quicker zapping of channels. For the most Ferguson are chasing their own tails as long as website owners deliberately move their websites around.

I brought in the channel list from the previous version and everything was ok after, including the web tv stuff that was fixed in this update. No problem with the EPG either.

Before I upgraded the firmware I loaded my channel list into the ArivaEditor and exported them out again. I then upgraded the firmware with allcode + booloader, did factory reset, then loaded the channels with userdb.

I'm not saying this is the right way to do it, just that it worked for me and I didn't see any of the problems mentioned above.

    Hope this helps!

It's a pity they don't provide a facility on the editor on the PC to export the channel only to a text file and then import it to the bin files using the editor after a firmware upgrade. Using the following steps
    1. Do a dump of the current set-up on the STB to USB
    2. Bring to the editor and export the channel list to a text file
    3. Upgrade the STB to newer firmware
    4. Do a dump on the STB to USB
    5. Bring to the editor and import the text file with the channel list
    6. Save it and bring back to the STB to burn it.

I'll have to upload the software and the patch somewhere and write the instructions as they are in another language. I don't want people bricking their boxes because I uploaded it! :)

Ariva 250 Channel List based upon firmware version 1.19B1 - upgrade to this firmware first before doing the following.

If you are already on version 1.19B1 then you just need to go to Tools, Upgrade by USB, then right click til you get userdb and then click down to start and flash this file to your box. When it gets to 100% it is done.

    Channel Lists included
    (Astra 1, 2 and Hotbird)
Favourite List 1 - Saorview & Satellite (Ordered)
Favourite List 2 - BBC Red Button
Favourite List 3 - Sky Channels (Alphabetical - Including Sky 2 HD/Sky Summer HD)

    All Channels
    Hot Bird
    Astra 1
    Astra 2A (Alphabetical)
    Eurobird

You may need to rescan your Saorview channels for your area. This one includes Mt Leinster.

All my Irish channels are gone now and they want me to rescan for them, but that will screw up my existing layout from your very helpful file above. Do you have the updated file to reflect the rescan? Bear in mind that I'm running firmware V1.20B6
Any help would be much appreciated

No, it will not. When you carry out a terrestrial scan it will add these channels to the end of the "all channels" list . You can then edit the listing using the edit channel page on the menu to place the terrestrial channels anywhere you like in the channel list.

Yep no mention of it in the manual that I can see . If you select "other" in the menu you should see "auto standby" which may help achieve what you need although there does not seem to be an option to vary the time .

I timed my ariva250 to record last night but forgot to power the connected HD. The STB came on and did not record. Now, If media player is selected on the STB with the HD connected, theTV screen goes blank and the STB is frozen until the HD is powered off or the USB lead disconnected. The HD still behaves normally when connected to a PC or used as a stand alone media player

A memory Stick still works with the STB to play media and record as does another HD, but the STB cannot be upgraded via usb with either device .When upgrade mode is selected, eg userdb, "no file" appears in box below, even though the attached memory contains .abs files.

    Any Ideas? Thanks

Had a quick search but didn't find the answer to this:
Have an Ariva 250 connected via HDMI to as Samsung TV.
When I am play something which is recorded on the hard disk, and press the stop button, the tv displays "disconnecting hdmi device" (or similar) and then the tv source changes from hdmi to "tv" . I need to go back and select 'stb' in the tv source to go back to the STB. Anyone know how to stop this happening? I saw something to do with HDMI-CEC earlier but I don't know how to turn it off.

Have to say I find the whole user interface on the Ariva very poor, and I'd consider myself pretty tech-savvy. My poor mother hasn't a hope with it... Having to go into the menus to find and watch recordings is very poor, there should be a single button to get there from the remote
    Cheers

You can do this with the recording timer menu. As well as setting the box to record there are two other options, On or"Channel" as the option is called in the menu or "Turn off"

Sorry if this was answered / discussed previously, but I did look and could not find anything. I notice that some set-top boxes are now starting to support internet based tv players (like RTE player). Is it conceivable that a future SW upgrade on the Ariva 250 might see the RTE player functionality?

    Thanks,
    Mark.

it already does, youtube, grooveshark, youporn etc

EDIT - would love to see players alright on the box, but the box is pan european, not aimed at the irish market per say, so to get something like a RTE player on it, would be good but slim I would say

Q1 In the PVR Setting menu there is an option to "After Record" turn off or stay on. Choose stay on. It will remember your settings.

Q2 Tech Savvy eh ? :) On the remote control below the mute button there is a button that pulls up the media player.

My experiences with the patched version Micker is that it plays havoc with

    1. the epg data for the UK channels and occasionally Saorview.
    2. the media player.

That is because these functions is ported from a different box that doesnt have the same functionality. Same in previous p version. Grooveshark is not a big plus but I would understand why the p version would be a plus for others.

I have a question about signal strength.
when I go into setup I get a signal strength of 80 to 90 percent for satellites and for terrestrial. But when i switch from channel to channel the signal strength bar is all over the place, e.g. Tonight Rte1 is between 20 and 90 percent and rte2 is 11 percent on terrestrial tonight. I start to lose reception on channels where the signal strength is less than about 5 percent
So, how come I can get such a weak or variable signal on individual channels while having a very strong signal from the satellite / terrestrial antenna? thanks!

Alright lads. All timed recordings on my box are failing (I'm on the latest firmware but it was happening with the previous firmware too). Timed recordings will work grand if I leave the box on but fail when the box is in standby. I don't know how the box is supposed to behave when waking from standby to carry out recordings but from my tests it doesn't just wake per say but boots up as if it's been switched off and on from the back of the box...ie it goes through the boot screen, gets IP, notifies me a HD has been found and all that and then switches to the channel I have set to record but doesn't record it. It's as if by the time it realises a hard drive (mains powered) has been detected that it has gone past the allotted recording time. I would have thought that when it wakes to carry out recording schedules that it would behave in the same way as when I just wake it from standby with the power button in that it doesn't go through a cold restart so to speak. Any advice lads?

Will it work with a memory stick. It works fine for me from Stand-by and I am using a memory stick. I have also set it to turn off after recording. It records, goes to stand-by after recording and comes back on for the next timer.

If I recall I had a similar issue with a powered hard-drive. The drive had a switch on it to either stay on all the time or go to stand-by when the connected device was powered off. It worked when the switch was set to be on all the time. I didn't want the hard-drive turned on all the time so I went for a 256MB memory stick.

I was using a "Cyclone" HDD/media player with the box, worked fine until I timed the box to record from standby while forgetting to leave on the power supply to the HDD. Now the HDD will not work with the box at all, although the box and HDD are working fine in all other respects.

Could be that the 250 is more compatible with Memory Sticks than HDDs

Assume you meant 256GB? In any case, what exact device did you use? I want to do the same but don't want to spash out on one unless I am pretty certain it works with the 250. I would also be interested to know where you bought it and how much you spent?

    Thanks.

    ?

The self powered hard drive would always stay on. Its power supply operates independent of the box. The box would not switch it off unless it was powering the hdd.

If you are saying that the drive is constantly being accessed by the box when a timer is set, then you have the timeshift switched on. You can turn this off in the menus. You only need to do this once as the box saves ALL your preferred settings in the root directory of the hard drive.

The HDD is not accessible now at all by the drive ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 670 ✭✭✭O'Prez

I meant this whole failed recordings thing is a pain in the hole...not the hard drive being always on which of course it would be seeing as it's powered separately. The box works great with the hard drive for pause, rewind, pressing record while the box is actually on, timed recordings when it's on...it just fails when the box is in standby. It'll turn on, get IP address, recognise the hard drive, I'll get a pop up about the event I have scheduled but it just doesn't record (and yes I do have it set to record in the timer menu). It's a mystery!
