    Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this...

I am from Wexford but I work and live in Dublin all week. My family, girlfriend and dog are all in Wexford. The problem is that I do not have any friends as such in Dublin so every evening I find myself at home alone watching a dvd or reading. I feel like I am wasting my life and I dread going back to the house.

Can anybody suggest clubs that I could join or social groups? I am really friendly but just at a loss of what to do during the week.

    Thanks!

The options are limitless dude, from canoeing to chess to tag to photography, the city is one big social club... what are your interests?

(new one to me, I was out for a swim across the wooden bridge on Dollymount and there was a pack of people playing beach volleyball. They had nets and everything. It looked like people were just joining in, cute foreign chics, blokes... all sorts, all ages. Very social. I didn't join in as my volleyball is my kryptonite.)

Local rugby club. I moved into new area last Summer, I know a couple of people in the area but the rugby has been brilliant for getting to know people and socialising. Most clubs would have a J4/J5 which are good for beginners or the more social player. I can recommend a club in your area if interested.

Also if not interested in full contact there are always tag rugby leagues going on all year round in Dublin. Usually mixed teams and great socialising is had at the games and after game beers.

How about an evening class learning a language?

Thanks for all the replies so far! I would actually like to learn Irish again. Not sure if anyone can recommend a beginners class?

I have never played Rugby tbh, more of a soccer or table tennis guy myself!

JuliusCesar - you are now on my heroes list. Just signed up for a good few clubs on the site!

Thats a good idea about the Irish. Something I wish had time to do. I am sure others here can recommend a good Irish class.

Also lots of soccer teams around, especially 5 a side which is great fun. Played a bit before but more of a rugby man.

    Hi OP,

check out Conradh na Gaeilige, number 6 Harcourt Street. They run Irish courses and have a bar to socialise in after the classes were you can practice what you have learned. Here is the link:

There's the Boards' Book Club one Wednesday a month; see the Literature forum for details.

Sometimes it is not easy to adjust to a city. You sound really nice, and I hope your plans to join clubs/events work out. You are doing the right thing by making an effort to get out and get involved. Good Luck!

I have exactly the same problem and still unable to sort it out :P I'm in Dublin since one year right now and I was unable to find any friend.

Unfortunately, I'm not really interested in learning Irish :)
