I think it's fair enough what they are doing. You mightn't like taxes but you have to pay them. If you don't you can hardly look to get other categories of state funding. That man Derry I think said that his 5 children got to third level and got the grant - that is worth at least €75,000 if each of them were there for 3 years. That's alot of money to get and then to hold back on the €100 household charge as a 'protest'. I didn't get a grant to go to college and got some help from my parents and from working.

Would be good to see though if the Councils start holding back council expenses from councillors who haven't paid. And what will happen to Joe Higgins and others who are on nearly €100,000 a year and aren't paying. They are in the 'won't pay' not 'can't pay' category.

The grant has been skewed for years. If you're the son or daughter of a self-employed person then you don't usually get the grant(because self-employed people are all rich as we all know), but if you're the son or daughter of a farmer, you instantly got the grant(because farmers are all poor).

farmers are so poor that agricultural land has risen by 20 % in the past two years and a fifty acre farm will now set you back a half a million euro , this in an enviroment where banks are not lending
