So I was wondering if i could turn off the base station functionality on one and use it as a charger merely or even better, link them together with one as a repeater to get better coverage out the back and front gardens for example.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Have a look in the manual. A few years back I had a basic Dect system which allowed you to link base stations.
