They don't display them.

Because roses with diseases don't sell.

I have to say that I have dog roses (white and pink) in my garden and they have a lovely scent, lots of flowers, bees go mad for them, take a good hacking back when needed, need little care and are disease free, and the hips are a lovely bright autumn color as long as they last as the birds love to eat them.

This is a tea rose that I came across in chelsea and had to have. It behaves badly in that it does not form a good tea rose shape and is used mainly in the cut flower industry, but it has the lovelyest flower and best sweet scent in the world.

Sprayed with rose clear every week and a good granular feed, i worked in a garden centre,thats how we did it.

Yes, the species roses can be nice too. I've got a few Rosa rugosas. The flowers look similar to many wild roses, but the rose hips are large and the plants more robust than our native species.
I've also got some tea roses and climbers to provide some variety.

I've always loved the more wild looking roses. Only recently did I get into hybrid roses though.
