Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

and you sound just like that mate of Lyons who rang liveline yesterday.

Lyons has supporters out there who are obliged to condemn the deed but want it all forgotten about. hate the crime but love the sinner and all that.Did Lyons even express remorse for his actions?in three months a convicted rapist is returning to Griffith avenue. the neighbours, especially those with daughters must be overjoyed. he is on the sex offenders register. Picketing the house is mild. if he does it again he should have to pay at least 150K.

Because while the attacker is now in jail(though for nowhere near long enough), his kids live in the house, do you really believe that terrorizing them does anything good for anyone?
Terrorizing kids is the act of a cowardly bully, why lower yourself to Lyons level?

Maybe the kids would ask questions as to why there's people outside their house.
If their mother had to explain to the children why daddy had to go away for a while they might be better served.

Personally, I wouldn't bother picketing his house.
If that girl was my daughter, I'd wait until he's out and then serve my own justice.
    Maybe that's just me.

As for stating that fuinseog is not much better than a convicted sex offender, I think you should apologise for that remark.

each to their own. I am a member of a residents association. if a rapist or paedophile moved to the area or was discovered to be living among us, we would take measures, albeit peaceful and within the law, to counteract it.

A rapist is living on Griffith Avenue, meaning the avenue has now become more dangerous for girls. its natural for parents with daughters, to be concerned. its an unusual case. most rapists, with the exception of domestic abuse, commit their sex crimes away from their home. this guy did it on his own doorstep. how brazen is that!

is Lyons evens going to be incarcerated in the rapist-paedophile wing of prison?

He probably hopes so. They keep sex offender separate for their own protection.

You seem to be confusing my post. I never said that I condone what he did. I simply stated my point that picketing (especially if he is not even there) is pointless and wrong. If people are upset about the sentence, why not have a protest on the steps of the court? Why target the family?

This reminds me a little of the issues raised years ago with "Sarah's Law" in the UK, after Sarah Payne was murdered. Of course all parents should have a right to know if there is a paedophile in the area, but whereas some parents would use this info to be extra vigilant etc, most people would just jump on the ban wagon, mob mentality takes over, and people cause trouble for the sake of it. There was even someone else targetted and attacked in a case of mistaken identity.

I walked by the place earlier with my dad, there's some new lampposts there now. It's good, it's probably the area most heavily covered with trees and it was always so dark.

    ?
So you can see Anthony the rapist as he comes out of his house to rape you ?

Let's face it; that's about all that will do apRt from showing some snails their way in the night. The courts we have seen won't give him a proper punishment; that is; if he's ever caught with a witness as the victim manages to phone the gaurds station up the road as he is trying to rape her.

    Lampposts.
    And a suspended sentence .
    fFS.

Yeah tbh that was more my attitude, and I actually saw it as an effort by whoever put them up to avoid any liability, but I didn't want people jumping down my throat for not being appreciative of them or something. I'm pretty sure that station closed in April too.

I wonder what a sex offender living in the area is going to do to the street value?

Delighted to hear it confirmed that the DPP has appealed the leniency of the sentence, papers were lodged with the Courts Service today.

Na, seriously, I hope the sentence is either fully enforced or increased.

Give him the electric chair....... Give that ridiculous, concussed, laughable, idiotic, embarrassment of a 'judge' a P45.

Its a sad reflection on our society that when such a travesty of justice crops up yet again, that there are no protests. a little bitching to Joe and a thread on boards, but the majority of folks just shrug their shoulders, adopt the 'sure, what can you do?' attitude and carry on. in other countries there would be a riot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭Madam_X

Yeh but who starts the riots? I nominate you.

i live near griffith ave and have heard some of the locals plan to encourage him to be somewhere else.

If he doesn't do at the very least 80% of the jail time (full sentence minus good behaviour) there should be protests.

There should also be a protest at the four courts to have the garlic importors sentence reduced.

having never gone to a protest before I would be first at either of these.

There should be a requirement for judges to release a report that is public record that details their reasons for each sentence.

It should not be let go.

it will be great selling houses on the avenue. i can just imagine the ad- house for sale in leafy suburb, minutes walk from local rapist.

if he were to do six years there would be no guarantee that he would not reoffend. he has plenty of other residences to choose from.

Did the wife condemn the rape?
i remember when Darinna Allens husband was caught downloading child porn she came out with the phrase 'hate the sin, but love the sinner' and she was eager to stress he was not connected to he business.

    Good afternoon.

It is my understanding that an article will appear in the press tomorrow in Dublin in connection with this matter.

This is as a result of an interview I agreed to give "on the record" and I did so in the full knowledge that what I said was true, irrefutable and accurate, but also that what I said was supported by irrefutable documentary evidence that would address key issues of significant public interest.

For reasons that will become clear tomorrow this is not a decision I have taken lightly and I have urged the publisher to confirm that what they print will not in anyway prejudice the criminal or civil legal process and that they report accurately and impartially.

I have never at any time sought to influence the reporting tomorrow and, if the publisher is true to their word, further investigation is planned.

I have issued a letter to the victims family of this crime outlining my reasons for coming forward, I hope they have received it.

To the moderators of the site, I hope that nothing I have printed here will compromise your position, I am simply stating a fact that is true and accurate as I understand it.

    Regards.

I'm completely baffled. You don't seem to have said anything here?

    Am I missing something?
