    both top versions are roughly the same price now, €445

    I have the GTX 670 on order from dabs but I could swap for the 7970. does the extra ram make the 7970 a better card?

    rest of my build is here

    Up to 1080p (inclusive): 670
    Otherwise, I'd go for the 7970.

    680 goes better at 1080p++ with just 2gb ram then 3gb 7970. 2gb ram is enough for 3 monitors and 1440p m8.

    Thought between 670 and 7970 I would go for 7970 with a nice aftermarket cooler.

    resolution will be 32" (minimum) 1920 x 1080. so is the extra ram then just more beneficial for a higher resolution? is it true the amd cards are better at over clocking?

    Up to 2gb is more then enough for 1080p. The only game that uses 1.2gb of ram at 1080p is bf3 other games struggle to get even 1gb used.

    670 and 7970 both great cards. I would not say no to any of them. It just depends who you give preference. Though I do have to say that nvidias surround support is fecking shiet, just in case you plan on getting 3 monitor setup in fufure.

    It doesn't matter what size it is is the number of pixels the resolution you described is 1080p (1920 x 1080) which a 1 or 2GB card will be fine for. What size of frame buffer you'll need for future games at very high resolution or multi monitor gaming remains to be seen.

    If you think you'll upgrade your monitor or use 3 then I'd go with AMD.

    No good going for a card that over clocks better if that result is slower than the other card overclocked 'worse'
